translation needed for 129-F? Help!

Hey everybody,

I'm FINALLY almost finished putting together the 129F package and it just occurred to me that my fiancee's Divorce Act is in Spanish. Do I need to include a translation even though it's entitled "Acta de Divorcio" and thus fairly obvious? My Spanish is good but not for this kind of legal jargon-- I don't think I'd understand it even it were in English.... I tried looking up on the site but got conflicting information-- in one place it said all documents must be translated if they are in a language other than English but in another place it said that as long as it is in the language of the consulate, it's okay. So do I or don't I? Thanks!

Yes it need to be translated into English. Check the Directions for filing the I-129F, it says to translate it. you only need to send in the translated COPY not original, keep original for the interview, they may ask to see it

I believe when we had interview in morocco he had to get papers from Morocco (whoch would be the language there) but had to translate, i think i would translate, maybe call a college find a student etc that could do it for you, the embassy would rep united state (not sure i said all this right) but to me anything not in english should be

So this is true even though the interview will take place in Mexico and the Divorce Act is in Spanish? I continued to peruse and saw that someone posted that you don't need to translate any document if it is in the language of the interview site. Thanks--

Always read the form instructions carefully and interpret them literally. It doesn't matter that the visa interview will be in Mexico. The petition will initially be adjudicated by a USCIS service center in the USA. There are instructions for certified translation of foreign language documents. Follow them precisely.

Read the instructions...anything you submit to a USCIS Service Center in the US must be in English. If you have a document in a foreign language, it must include an English translation with certification that the translator is fluent. It doesnt matter for the interview as they will speak both English and Spanish.

I believe most Consulate in Spanish speaking countries will accept official documents in Spanish but that is definitely not universally true, so don't interpret it that way.
