Okay, I need to vent for a moment...

In February, I was quoted a lower price for my hotel room, but because Leidys walked to the reception counter with me, she was also asked to sign in, and I was then charged a premium for two persons staying in my room.

The problem? Her family won't allow her to stay overnight due to the local customs as they are. I respect these decisions on the part of the family, but why must the hotel charge us extra $$$ because she is standing with me at the reception counter. Then, when you raise the point, you are looked at as The Ugly American.

My solution: To avoid making a scene, arguing over Pesos, I told Leidys the next time we visit (top secret, VJ) she can meet me in the reception area 30 minutes AFTER I check in. This will make it so we do not have any misunderstandings, and so that nobody is made to feel uncomfortable during my stay. This is all good, except I made someone special feel uncomfortable. I felt her sadness when I asked her to meet me at the hotel instead of the airport, but due to all of the taxis being compacts and subcompacts (no minivans or shuttles), we cannot fit as a group in a taxi. Hmmm.
