I ran into a stranger as he passed by,

'Oh excuse me please' was my reply.

He said, 'Please excuse me too;

I wasn't watching for you.'

We were very polite, this stranger and I.

We went on our way and we said goodbye.

But at home a different story is told,

How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,

My son stood beside me very still.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.

'Move out of the way,' I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.

I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,

A small voice came to me and said,

'While dealing with a stranger ,

common courtesy you use,

but the family you love, you seem to abuse.

Go and look on the kitchen floor,

You'll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.

He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,

you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes.'

By this time, I felt very small,

And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;

' Wake up, little one, wake up,' I said.

'Are these the flowers you picked for me?'

He smiled, 'I found 'em, out by the tree.

I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.

I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue.'

I said, 'Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;

I shouldn't have yelled at you that way.'

He said, 'Oh, Mom, that's okay.

I love you a nyway.'

I said, 'Son, I love you too,

and I do like the flowers, especially the blue

nothing says I love you like a BJ

And they used to say "the fastest way to a man's heart was his stomach". I knew better than to believe that #######... :D

No. If you bump into someone on the street, what do you say? Excuse me, right? What about your husband/wife/child?

That's what I meant.

I say excuse me or sorry in public as a beaten in reflex. Whether or not I really mean it is beyond the point, my culture demands I say it. My husband hates it when people say excuse me or sorry too often in public (or at home, he says I say it way too much for situations he doesn't believe warrants apology), especially if they don't even touch you. It is a cultural difference.

I treat my husband like family, not like a stranger.

What works for us, is that I want the best for him and he wants the best for me. So that way, it is easy to compromise.

All I want is to see him happy. (L)

When there's a disagreement that can't be settled by talking it out, we both agree to settle it with an arm wrestling match. So far I'm 5-0 and she's wanting to reconsider a more evenly matched competition....a game of darts maybe.

Similiar to what my husband has decided. Reminds me of his rule we will do when he gets back. "If I win, you make me coffee. If you win, I make the coffee". Hm....sounds good to me and an excuse to kick his butt in video games AND have a man make me coffee! can't get much better than that for a woman:)

I promise to love you in good times and in bad, with all I have to give and all that I am, in the only way I know how -- completely and forever......
