If they start drilling they'll ruin the coasts and nobody will want to go there anyway. Might as well live with the boycott now and avoid ruining the resources that attract tourists.

Without affordable fuel, there won't be many tourists to attract.

What's on the way? The urban legend that China is drilling off Florida's coast? There's nothing supporting this claim.

If its in the ground someones gonna get it! My as well be us. Batteries and propellars are the answer right? That Obama poop is good heh?

Focusing on that mosquitopiss worth of oil there which won't make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things instead of focusing on sustainable solutions just makes no sense at all.

Mosquito piss? Your addicted just like the rest of us!

Yes, mosquitopiss. As far as the oil off our shores is concerned. That's what we were talking about here. There just isn't much to be had. Not enough to really make a difference. So why bother with it? Why not leave it alone and focus on real solutions.

Are our state parks open for wind turbines and solar? Works both ways son!

I'm not generally opposed to such idea. The impact would have to be determined, though.

You have got to be kidding?

About what?

Has anyone here thought about what American children would do without Disney World if mom and dad decided to boycott the resorts??

On the real now... totally stupid idea. I find it completely hilarious how the 'states rights' crowd all of a sudden wants to impose drilling where they are not residents.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Or should they be boycotted if they do allow drilling?

I mean, it would make more sense, no? With drilling their states will be less ecologically attractive...

With oil/gas prices continuing to climb, should pressure be put on states like Florida and California by boycotting their tourism industry until they allow offshore drilling?

DAH boycott them, they can just sit there and stare at the daisys and the snail darters all day long, and see how they make a living then! They do not deserve your money, take it elsewhere like Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, or Alabama!

RIGHT ON AND WELL SAID, you are right!

I would be more inclined to boycott states that DO allow offshore drilling.

Please don't! My family and friends on the Gulf Coast can't afford any more hits to tourism right now :)

Global warming and rampant consumerism are evil so most liberals want the country to ditch their cars and begin growing organic gardens.

Yes and I would also like to request that you evil consumers also grow out your armpit hair and begin wearing hemp clothing if it's not too much trouble.

Sheesh. Broad generalizations are so annoying.

PS aren't home-grown gardens "organic" anyway? hee hee

What?! You don't want to grow out your armpit hair?!

Just out of curiosity. How far out does a states borders go into the ocean? The drilling proposed is between 25 and 100 miles out. Isn't that international territory? If not, is it still the state or is it the federal territory?

I think in most cases the state boundary coincides (by state claim) with the limit of national boundaries at sea.

But yeah, I thought of that as well... go above the states with a national decree or something... sounds a bit harsh if at all possible, but not at all beyond the reach of some politicians.

I think territorial waters go out 12 miles. This used to be 3 nautical miles based on the range of cannons back in the 19th century? Seems like the guide at the lighthouse at St Augustine said something about that. The exclusive economic zone (EEZ) extends out 200 miles except where the distance between country shorelines is less than 400 miles and then the EEZ extends midway. States may have some rights out to 12 miles so it really doesn't have anything to do with the current drilling proposals (50-200 miles?) except for politics.
