Hello all. Getting ready to file a petition to bring my fiancé to the US. I'm currently in the Army, but will be getting out soon. The address where he's going to live will depend on where I end up working. For the form should I put my current address and then submit a change to that later on? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

14. Address in the United States where your fiancé(e) intends to live.

Ok. Thank you very much. That's the last thing I needed to fill out. :)

Since addresses change anyway, you could save yourself some trouble by using a "permanent address" like that of your parents or other family member until you've settled on something more permanent for yourself.

They just want something valid on record here.

Ah. Ok. That makes sense. I just wanted to make sure that the immigration people weren't expecting him to live at that place. The only address I have that would be permanant would be that of my parents, and I know that they don't want us living with them. They're not against us getting married, my dad is just sick and they really don't have the energy for anybody else to live with them at the moment. If the immigration people are just looking for a permanant US address though, that might work. Thank you.

The address you list as your own is where the mail from USCIS will be sent, (NOA1, NOA2 or possible RFE) so bear that in mind too.

We used my mom's address as a our permanent address b/c we always lived within 15-20 miles from her. We moved a lot in the first year and I didn't want to risk losing any mail. Also, my mom's mail is more reliable since she's in a house and not in an apartment. However, once we moved states and had a firm address, we formally changed the address with USCIS.

Summer 2001--we met in Manzanillo, Mexico

10/02--129F submitted (We had 1 RFE)

7/03--Interview in Ciudad Juarez

2/15/04--Married

4/2/04--AOS submitted

8/23/04--Interview in Chula Vista, CA (approved pending name check)

5 EADs, 3 APs, multiple Senators' inquiries and infopass appts, 2 AOS biometrics,

and one move to Seattle later...

3/3/08--AOS Biometrics renewal in Seattle

6/9/08--10 year green card arrived in the mail. My husband is no longer in immigration limbo and is a realio, trulio permanent resident! It says he's been a resident since 04/17/2008.

The only problem I'm seeing with using my mom's address, is that I currently live in Kansas, and she's in Oregon. I don't know how long they take to get to my interview, but that's a bit of a distance. At the same time though, I live in barracks, and by regulation, I can't have anyone living with me, so I don't know if they'd accept that as an address. I might just have to suck it up and pay for the plane ticket if I have to go to an interview in Oregon, otherwise I'm going to be submitting change of address forms left and right.

After she arrives and you are married, you can just use your then current address when you file to adjust status. That will put your interview at your local office. This will be critical because she'll have a biometrics appointment too.

hmmm... Yeah, I'd only use your mom's address if she was local to you. I know there are other military people on this site. I think they might have a thread they've started. I'd search for that. I think they'd be able to help more with your situation. To them it won't be so unique I imagine.

The K-1 interview will be in Juarez and it won't be right away. For this part of the process you just need an address where you can receive mail since that's how they'll communicate with you. Once your husband has the visa, I imagine you'll be out of the military and will know where you'll live, right? When you file for the AOS you'll want to make sure that it's a local address for biometrics and the interview.

Your intyerview? You are the USC... You will not have an interview.....

Barracks? How on earth will the USCIS know that the address you provide does not allow conjugal living?

Until such time that you submit the I-864 (with the AOS application), the US Citizen does not have to report a change of address to the USCIS.

Possibly because the barracks are on a federal installation, and belong to the government. There are a lot of people who work for the government who used to be in the military, and I wouldn't want to get the one guy who would happen to know that people living in barracks aren't allowed to have anyone living with them. I just don't want to give them any reason to raise an eyebrow about something. I'd rather not have the packet sent back and then have to resubmit it for any reason. I miss my man, and would rather be with him sooner than later.

I'd definitely look for some other military folks on this site. I think it's a pretty good group of people who look out for each other and give each other tips.

you're right the embassy would usually require you to put your current address and then change it when you have a new address. when changing addresses, you have to call your visa center and they'll tell you what to do.

good luck! :)
