That is a tough question John. All of us had the same problem. The embassy has signs that tell you not to sell your stuff and buy tickets until you have the visa. They will not rush a visa because you have already bought tickets. They are pretty stern. They are not cool people at all.

Lucero lived in Bogota, which made it a little easier. I had booked round trip for a week before the interview and a week after ( I added a couple of weekends in there also).

Things were different then. You had to wait for a courier to bring the visa and it took a few days. I really wanted to come back with Lucero. I knew I would have to pay top dollar for a ticket but there was no way I was going to trust the consulate to make a reservation early for a flight.

When we got the visa I checked and I could have gotten a flight for her but we came to our senses and realized that it would be much better for Lucero to come a couple of weeks later. That let her take care of business and gave me a chance to get the house in order before she came. I was a little disapointed but in the long run I think it worked out much better for us.

The night before I left there was a small Colombian party. There were only 20 or 30 people and it only lasted till 4 AM. Of course people I hardly knew brought gifts and cried because I was leaving. I realized, right away that I did not want to be there when Lucero left. These people are just too passionate. It all worked out perfectly.

There is no way for me to know how far your fiance is from Bogota, but if it is possible you should give her a little time in Colombia to get her affairs in order and say goodbye to her friends and family. in the context of a lifetime, this is a small sacrifice.

Stay as long as you can, but unless you are insecure give her a little time to absorb this new life that she is entering.
