I think that is what the Indiana BMV hopes. By the time my husband actually has a license, half our lease will be up and we are not planning on staying here. A license good for six months than has to be re-issued by going back through the BMV's immigration processing unit if we have the absolute misfortune of having to stay this godforsaken state.

They make USCIS look like a joke.

I worked in the Nebraska Service Center for a short time (a month to be exact before getting canned for having to miss an orientation meeting because my boss had a special project for me...that's government for ya!). Well, there are a lot of files. Many, many files and not enough people to process them in a timely manner. The room where the K-1 files are kept ....well ok there were several rooms in the building and in the federal building downtown dedicated to them. And knowing some of the people who worked there I imagine there are lots of problems with files somehow getting lost in the shuffle.

I wasn't there long enough to really get a feel for the process and come to hard conclusions, but I think there is something too in having the process take so long to make sure the couple intends on staying together. There is a massive room devoted just to Marriage Fraud files...they are pretty diligent about making sure that the other half isn't getting married just to get an easy ride into America.

As a side note, one of the most unique people I've ever met worked at the Nebraska Service Center. He was a guy I'll call B, and he talked to the files...and he thought the files talked back to him. I would come across him in a file room talking away to file from an Ecuadorian immigrant or wherever and would pause as if it was replying, and go on again like that for hours. The best story I ever heard was one day he was walking along past a row of cubicles with a bunch of files when he tripped over a bit of carpet and dropped them all on the floor. Someone on the other side of the cubicle heard B drop the files and said "whoa there B, be careful" or something to that affect. Well, B totally lost it as he thought that it was the files that had said that rather than the man on the other side of the cubicle, and kept on apologizing over and over to the files for dropping them.

Otherwise, the job sucked and the pay was ####### with a bunch of really arbitrary rules. A month later I got a job with benefits that paid twice as much...guess it was a good thing getting canned from there!

If the job sucks that badly,I can see why they are not too enthusiastic.
