I love horror movies, particularly vampire stories but the movie that got me really screaming from my seat is THE RING. . specfically that scene where the girl was coming out of the well and out of the tv screen with her face covered by her long black hair. . . . . arrghhhhhhhhh

Oh yeah and Amityville horror 2. Liked the first one but I stopped watching the second one at the scene where the son gets possessed by the devil and he starts to give his sister the "Whoa you're hot so I wanna do whatever with you" look.

Supposedly that scene comes from the testimony of the actual killer, Ronald DeFeo, Jr., though much of what he said is understandably highly suspect.

Never knew that, interesting. I was always told that the sequels to Amityville Horror had nothing to do with the first one. Well, I don't think you can trust someone who says he heard voices telling him to kills his family and how the devil possessed his house and suddenly it's all put back together again. But you've got to admit though...the windows shaped as eyes...those were kinda freaky at night though ( I'm talking about the first movie of Amityville-the good one , not the second one, lol)

The second one is supposed to be a prequel, somewhat loosely based on the DeFeo murders which occured the year before the Lutz's (the subject of the original movie) moved in. The details of the murders don't quite fit with the actual case. The first movie (and the third, btw, which references the murders), was more accurate in that area.

The Blair Witch Project.

Everybody went on and on about how "Scary" it was. I kept waiting for something scary to happen. I must have missed it. LOL

Yeah that's probably the straight out worst horror movie for me ever. But it didn't make me laugh either. I think part of it was the hype....I was so excited for that one.

I walked out of the theatre thinking - oh that wasnt so bad (I have low tolerance for horror) .. then i got home... then I couldn't sleep at all that night, and most of the next night. I was really freaked out!

To answer the initial question - it has to be Evil Dead for me.

Blair Witch scared me too...after the fact. I don't look at the forest the same again.

The worst horror movie for me was The Ring. I thought it was ridiculously stupid.

I think the Blair Witch Project was pretty clever given its obvious budget limitations and made good use of the first person perspective. It's been called gimmicky by a lot of people - but its not like the first person thing added nothing to the storytelling.

Cloverfield (using the same devices) was gimmicky, I thought.

I didn't mind The Ring - though the Japanese version is better than the Hollywood one. Of course - only the Japanese could come up with an idea about killer videotapes.
