Where can I find a Spanish interpreter in San Francisco?

After reading a bunch of posts, I realized that I would need a Spanish interpreter to take with us to the AOS interview. Anyway to find one in San Francisco? Thanks.

Thanks. So far I have not found any. I searched google, but there are no good options. I still have time, but I'd like to find one before it is too late.

That sounds like a good idea. And you could do it by the cheap. $10-20/hour. Of course, you'd want to make sure they were familiar with immigration vocab. Maybe someone who already went through the immigration process?

You are right. I guess I would like to talk to La Raza here in San Francisco to see if I can get a referral. Maybe this weekend at church will help. Definitely it should be someone familiar with immigration vocab as you pointed out.

No you do not need anyone with any special vocabulary - the only word that confused my wife's Mexican born translator was Biometrics. By the way my examiner asked me why I didn't interpret for her (So, perhaps, you could do it too; how's your Spanish?). Here we had found an interpreter at a local Mexican restaurant - one of the owner's sister or aunt did it for people - she was charging $150 for the 3 or 4 hour time slot (sometimes you end up waiting). So, you could inquire at the local Mexican restaurants too - they may have people who do it to make some extra cash. We ended up taking a friend - who became available - he ended up having days off for working some night shifts, so we did save the $150. Good Luck

I translated for my husband in 2004, but it seems like it's not consistent, whether you're allowed to translate or not. We had absolutely no problem, but others say that you definitely need a translator. Dunno.

When we went for our interview here in Newark I asked at the window for someone who spoke Spanish and the whole interview was conducted in Spanish. We had to wait about 1 1/2 hour past our appointment time but it was worth it.

Well, I am cuban-american and I lived 28 years in Cuba before spending another 28 years in the US. My Spanish and English are more than excellent to be an interpreter; however, I heard horror stories about not taking another person to interpret for you. Biometrics = Biometricos....LOL. It has both the same meaning in Spanish as it does in English. Anyhow, I just want to ready so that the interviewer cannot make any excuses not to approve AOS, and thus pass the inteview.

You are correct that it is not consistent, but just in case I want to be ready. I don't want to show up at the interview, and have to return at a later time because the interviewer wants an interpreter. I don't want the interviewer making any lame excuses at the time of the interview not to approve the AOS or delay it for this stupid reason. Thanks.
