It is in the wintertime except for maybe the southwest coastline.

You do realize that there are parts of the US which are situated further north than parts of Canada, don't you?

Oh, and since......

the US has the same and more.

..... I thought I'd throw this in for my Canadian pals. :P

Ok - just can't help adding this in here - after all, every American knows Canadians live in Igloos and here is proof!

Why is it so controversial to say, for the most part Canada is a cold country? I grew up in the US but 10 miles from the border. It is cold there 6 months of the year, and unbearably cold between Dec-Mar. Which is why I no longer live in Michigan any more.

UK people don't get in an uproar every time some claims it rains a lot there.

In fact, Detroit is actually north of Windsor!

Why is it so controversial to say, for the most part Canada is a cold country?

For one, that isn't what was said.

Two, I am tired of the "Canada is one big iceberg" stereotype, being from a more temperate part of the country.

Three, it's the "I can't understand why people think Canada is so great, America is the same and better" blah blah that followed that bugs me more.

Fourth and finally, I've had a long day. Things that I normally don't care about are irking me, yet amusing me at the same time. :D

I was never hiding in the shadows, I've always been proud of my wetback roots. I yelled and screamed "give me a green card or give me death!" so all of a sudden the USCIS gave me a pink card, can you believe that #######? Pink?!

Then I thought "shoot, I might as well become one of yous" so I gots me a US citizenship. Then when I petitioned my husband, 'cause you know, he married me for the pink card since love is so overrated, I told the US government "I'm bringing my husband and he's not going through Mexico because that damn desert is too freaking hot and he's not used to eating spicy food with mariachi bands". And what do you know, the CO just approved us in no time. Snaaaaap!

Gotta love the good ol' US of A! (as the song "Proud To Be an American" is being played in the background) B)

Diana

Should be ashamed of yourself! In this country being a wetback and love the US is unbelievable, besides all those jobs done by the undocumented are easy as #######! people from here would fight for them if it wasn't for you people who come and steal them. I always dreamed on becoming a picking farm worker, working under 100 F, no health insurance, being harrassed and threatened all the time and making 4 dlls an hour. ALL that money can you imagine it! THAT'S LIFE people!! *sigh* Damn you wetbacks, you stole my dream!!!

I'm replying to your tagline that says we are all immigrants. I'm not an immigrant. I was born and raised in the US. I did not immigrate to it. I currently legally live and work in China, but I have not immigrated here. That is not an option for me. China is not open to immigration except for to a small handful. As for my anscestors, they did not immigrate either. They migrated from France to territory that belonged to France. That territory was later sold by France to the already established nation of the USA, but that was several generations after the arrival of my ancestors.

I would agree that the US is a nation built upon the backs of immigrants, and I think immigration is a wonderful thing, and something to be proud of. I wouldn't be taking this visajourney if I didn't. But I get tired of this statement because it is a simplistic, inaccurate statement usually given, very arrogantly and judgementally and in a prejudiced manner, to stop discussion about illegal immigration.

If you mean that everyone everywhere in the world can trace their roots back to a different location from where they find themselves today, then I would agree, but that's sort of like saying, Everyone breathes, so I don't see the point.

As for the quote from the Statue, it implies, fairly explicitely, legal immigration. Unfortunately, the US has no room for the tired, the poor, and the hungry these days because there are no jobs for them. I wonder why.

Well that explains it. Michigan's further north than where I'm from.

Are you comparing the Canadians to the UK people now?:bonk::lol: (Oh. And a comparable for you.... think of the type of response you'd hear if someone were to comment that the people from Ireland or Scotland are the same as the people from England. That'll give you a good idea of what's going on here. )

Yes, Cassie has had a very rough day today. I can vouch for that. We need to tippy-toe around her. (((((Hugs Cassie)))))

Awww man the party is over  . Damn it.

Ok *puts his serious mask on*

Tell me where in that quote your are mentioning, it says: GIVE ME YOUR TIRED, YOUR POOR etc etc but first you should be a legal resident of the US. The current immigration policy is broken, that's why people are climbing the fences because they are hungry ok? Mexico and other countries are to blame on that matter I know. The main issue here is that according to you, there are no more jobs right? well, if people are coming, if people are staying, I really do not think is because they are living off welfare right? besides what kind of living can welfare give you? It's naive to say that there are no more jobs available, call the farmers and ask them if they need help, heck you can go ahead and apply for those jobs. I'm pretty sure they will not turn you down, they will be hiring legal workers! Can you wonder why people don't want to work in those kinds of jobs? Bottom line, because they SUCK
