Does the Petitioner attend interview with Beneficiary?

I filed my 129f early Jan at CSC so not to interview yet, but had a few questions and appreciate any help.

My fiancée is from the Philippines. Am I required to attend the interview with her? If not, may I attend the interview with her (or I would be waiting outside)? Assuming we pass the interview is it likely that she will obtain the visa that day (i.e. is it risky to buy plane tickets for both of us back to US?)

Thanks in advance.

I think if you are there, you'll be waiting outside but somebody can clarify that.

Yes, it is too risky to buy plane tickets for both until the visa is in hand, IMO and no it will not be in hand that day. I suggest you do some reading and posting in the regional forum for the Philippines in preparation for the interview.

You are not required to attend the interview but if you can it will help you fiancee a lot to calm her nerves. During my interview my fiance then husband now was with me and he was asked questions as well. It is too risky to buy tickets before interview since there are people who end up in AR. Just my thought.

Email the consulate, they would know.

For me I can attend but they said they might want to question me as well. Financially I might not want to do it but I am so nervous that something bad will happen.

Better if the petitioner attends in most cases. Buying tickets shows confidence in getting the visa. Just be sure the dates can be changed with a small fee or none.

I flew PAL Mabuhay [business] and you can change the ticket date for no charge.

Thanks for the replies. Just got my NOA2 unexpectedly yesterday, so getting closer to interview

I will check the Philippines section of the boards and email the consulate.

Sounds like I am not required, but attending of course will show support for Lea and I may be allowed in and questioned too. Of course it’s expensive and a long trip (and my vacation time is limited), so I’m trying to weigh that decision.

If that's the case, then I will show at up at interview with my Fiance with luggage in hand and a tricycle parked outside waiting to take me to airport

My suggestion. Attend if you can, Not really needed. Woman in PI tend get treated poorly by authority figures.

Can't speak for the Phillipines, but it should not make a difference if the petitioner attends the interview or not. Only in high fraud countries may it be of an advantage. Otherwise, the petitioner may or may not be allowed in for the interview, which should be a quick 5-10 minute process if everything is in order.
