There's nothing better than coming to VJ on a boring Friday afternoon for some entertainment. I always find idiotic posts with bad spelling that just crack me up.

Thanks for the good times Console"master".

Not really chinese just of asian origin. That being said, I hold nothing against our asian brothers like some other members do against hispanics in this country.

It's not really surprising - there are plenty of people here who don't speak English as a first language.

People who do speak English as a first language and can't spell, punctuate or observe grammatical conventions - well they have no excuse.

Of course nobody's perfect.

I'm just coming back into this thread now and so I'm going to respond to something said earlier -- about the "charitable will" of Americans. Some people on here (and in this country overall) seem to compare charity with taxation for government programs that supposedly provide for the less fortunate.

I don't see them being equal at all.

If I decide to be charitable and give out of my own free will, then it's my decision. That's a much different scenario than if I am taxed, where my money is taken and put into a program I may or may not agree with and used for purposes I can get absolutely no say in at all.

I hope everyone can see the point I'm making here. If I choose to help someone, then I will. However, if I am forced to do it, I suppose I will as well, but I won't like it nor will I view those taking my money or those receiving my money in any positive frame of reference, either. In effect, the latter position will eventually cause people to grow and harbor grudges, whereas the former will make them feel good about themselves and those they are helping. :star:

I see your point, but I can't imagine people donating the billions/(trillions?) of dollars needed to ensure that the poor in this country have food, housing, and medical care.

And what about the elderly? What would happen to Medicare if it were based only on charitable contributions? Grandma and Grandpa would not be able to afford to go to the doctor and would lose everything they had trying to pay their medical bills.

I'm proud of the fact that we as a people support the poor. I've seen kids die in other countries because their parents didn't have $10 for malaria pills and there was no government or charitable program to help them out. That doesn't happen here. Women and children aren't routinely living on the streets. People don't starve to death here. That's only achievable by having everyone who is able to contribute to the greater cause of taking care of each other.
