Does NVC mail you?

My petitions were approved last week, and I know it takes a little while for it to arrive at NVC. I was wondering how do I find out.

Is NVC going to send me a letter with the new case number and etc?

Should I nag both USCIS and NVC until they give me one?

Yes NVC typically mails you a letter when they send the petition on to the consulate.

I waited a few weeks and then emailed NVC and got case number that way.

You can call the NVC as many times as you want to get your case number. It's faster if you nag.

Yup, NVC will mail you a letter with the case # informing you that your case will be forwarded to the embassy in beneficiary's country within a week. It took 3 weeks for me to receive the letter since my approval date and 3 days for embassy in Bosnia to receive the packet

Note: don't be surprized if they respond that they do not have the case, it can take a few weeks for USCIS to send it to NVC.

We got something in the mail from NVC, but it was a few weeks after they had sent the case off to the embassy. I would recommend that you keep calling. It is a pain, but it is the best avenue for information at that stage. NVC will probably only have your case for a few days. Once you know it has been sent, you can use DHL to track the package. There are some instructions in the Wiki section of VJ.

Depends on which case USCIS sends to NVC, some have had the I-129F closed in favor of the I-130, if this is the case NVC will be dealing with CR-1 case and US Citizen will be then dealing with visa bill and I-864 with NVC.

How USCIS is handleing this has been in flux for the past 6 months, some have I-130 sent to NVC others have I-129F sent on to NVC.

I-130 (CR-1) is the preferred process, it results in green-card upon entry, costs less, is work authorized, can get SSN, drivers license. Typically takes a bit longer than K-3

I-129F (K-3) is not work auth, so cannot get JOB, SSN, Driver's license in most states, has to wait months for EAD and sometimes years for green-card.

So lets see which way USCIS will go.

Has anyone else got caught in thier vicious IVR cycle? I am not able to reach a human being! Am I not selecting the right options? Any tricks that I can use to find out if they have received our case? Our main package is just about to head to Lada for her interview.

We're not worried about the trouble and the cost, we just want to live together ASAFP.
