American accused of giving nuclear secrets to Israel

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. authorities arrested an American engineer on Tuesday on suspicion of giving secrets on nuclear weapons, fighter jets and air defense missiles to Israel during the 1980s, the Justice Department said.

Ben-Ami Kadish, a Connecticut-born U.S. citizen who worked at an Army engineering center in New Jersey, was suspected of reporting to the same Israeli government handler as Jonathan Jay Pollard, who is serving a life term on a charge of spying for Israel.

Court papers say Kadish's spying lasted roughly from 1979 to 1985, and his contact with the unidentified Israeli handler continued until March of this year.

Kadish was arrested in New Jersey and was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday afternoon at U.S. District Court in Manhattan, authorities said.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli government but a senior Israeli defense official said "I find it hard to believe that, after the Pollard affair, we would recruit an American spy."

Pollard pleaded guilty in 1986.

A Justice Department official said Kadish did not appear to receive any money in exchange for his suspected spying.

Now that's dedication.

And he will be rewarded for his 'dedication.'

Sure, always knock the engineers! Not sure the nuke stuff was of any use to the Israeli's.......

This guy sold some secrets to Israel concerning weapon systems on an "advanced F15" sold to a U.S. Middle East ally....

Gee, who fly's F15's in the Middle East?

Knowledge is Power! Beware of the Engineers!

Technically, the knowledge to assemble nuclear arsenal is already available to the mainstream. It's where to look! Everybody can obtain them. Afterwards, just assemble them piece by piece. Due to ethical reasons, I will not elaborate on that.

I think the secrets passed had more to do with (nuke) aircraft delivery systems rather than any "how to"....The Israeli's already have the "how to" information.......

That is what I thought. Most countries can dig up their physics and chemistry book and learn how the process works (including past published journals). I would guess the important information is the exposure of US technology to foreign countries. That would be scary.

The Israeli's have had nukes for more than 30 years......BTW, Israel continues to spy on the U.S. to obtain intel about their neighbors, as well as engaing in industrial and military espionage to maintain their "edge".....

Funny thing is that S. Korea and Japan do the same but we rarely hear about their espionage.

Curious, eh?

It seems everyone is spying on the US. How else would countries like China catch up so fast and in such a short amount of time.

Whereas if the US dared to spy back, the NYT and co would publish their every move and then call it freedom of press.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
