Quick Question about police certificates (and sorry if this isnt posted in the right forum)

Do all applicants need to include a Police Certificate in the initial 1-129F Packet (it says something about including it only if applicable)? Or is it needed later on in the K-1 Process? Im from Ireland if that makes any difference and have no criminal record. if someone knows a link or something for me to look at for more info that would be excellent.

Thanks

Don't worry about the police certificate until after NOA2 and your petition is sent to the embassy.

Yup! Everyone's right .. not needed until you get your NOA2

When you get there, here's some more information on the joy of Garda Police Certificates! But don't get it too early, cos I think theres a 6month/1year validity on it.

Have fun!

I'll follow this up with another police certificate related problem:

We received Packet 3 for the K1 (from Guanngzhou Consulate) three days ago. I am shocked the US would put their stamp on it: the English and Chinese translations differ greatly.

Here are some of the directions under the Police certificate section:

"Each applicant aged 16 years or older must submit a police certificate from (1) the police authorities of each locality of the country of the applicants nationality..."

If I take this literally (it is, after all, a legal document), I must get a police certificate from every police station in China. Obviously, this is not true. So what does this mean?

The next instruction goes as follows:

"Each applicant aged 16 years or older must submit a police certificate from...(2) current residence where the applicant has resided for at least six months since attaining the age of sixteen..."

This sentence has three different time-frames that it supposes are equal: current residence, for at least six months, since attaining the age of sixteen. Am I supposed to submit a police form for

a) her current residence

B) the current residence, only if she's been here for more than six months, or

c) every residence where she has resided for at least six months since turning sixteen?

I don't believe I'm splitting hairs here. We want to be as prepared for that interview as possible, but these directions make that terribly difficult (especially since past police forms from other cities are nearly impossible to retrieve without going in person).

Besides these troubles, I also have found the Packet 3 to be rather outdated. The websites given do not exist (or are at least unreachable from my home in China) and contrary to what everyone else is saying (including Homeland Security), the Consulate is requesting a notarized I-134 from our sponsor in the States. What's going on with the US Consulate in Gaungzhou?

You need to provide a police certificate from every location of residence since the age of 16. If the police certificate is a "national" certificate then you only need one from each country. If the certificate is a "local" only certificate then you need one from every city/region/locality.

In todays world, most every certificate is "national".

YMMV
