dunno how common it is. i understand there are some groups that believe in that practice. typically off shoots of the mormon religion. note, official mormon religion does not practice any more.

i belive it is outlawed everywhere and these groups try to skirt the law by various means. such as simply not registering the marriages... some kind "spiritual union" thingie.

Warren Jeffs and his followers have a rather uneasy relationship with the law. I don't think their marriages would be recognized under civil law.

I have been through Colorado City, AZ where his compound is on my way to the Grand Canyon. It is one freaky place.

It's a compound. Private property. If the police don't have enough evidence for a warrant

to search your property, you can do pretty much anything you want - legal or illegal.

unless someone reports a suspected child abuse to CPS, then bammo, doors are broken down. i just read that the folks at the compound are cooperationg with authorites for this investigation (child abuse reported to CPS).

They also used to throw all the boys out on the street when they became teenagers - they were a threat to all the elders. Apaprently it was a huge problem to local towns, a bunch of 14-16 year olds with nowhere to go and no education.

There is an excellent TV series, Big Love, about a guy in Salt Lake City who has three wives. I don't know what channel because I watched it on DVD, but it really gives you insight to that way of life. I've only seen the first season. I don't know if they ever made the second season.

of course each one of them would need a special feature. Like the sex slave would have a huge package, the worker would be extremely smart, and the househusband maid would be really sweet and listen to me.
