*Start rant:* It's ridiculous. How about they make sure people use condoms too?

The one main reason women should use gardesil is if they change partners. Yes true your one and only partner could carry it, but come on, there are so many disease you can get from just about everyone.

Do we need to prove X years of abstinence too?

I just don't see the point. And I think it's discriminatory against women.

:ranting:*end rant*

Are you kidding?

How about the fact that the strains it vaccinates against are the ones that cause cancer? Cancer is a better alternative to getting a vaccine?

And no, the only reason women should get Gardasil is not if they change partners. Like you even stated, you can get it front your first and only partner; also, do gonorrhea or chlamydia cause cancer? Yeah, didn't think so.

Bottom line is also: if you want to be in the country and they require it, you have to get it. Which is better: Gardasil or them not allowing any fiances to enter the country? Seriously. So many people on this site fail to see the bigger picture, which to me is: if my husband had to eat fire, jump through hoops, and ride and elephant to the jungle for them to approve him, we would have done it. There are far worse things than having to get a vaccine (like getting stuck in namecheck for 2 or 3 years like some people here have).

As far as discriminatory against women...women are the only ones who get cancer from HPV. Dee dee dee.

Have you ever heard of the side effects of the vaccine? Did you know that it doesn't protect against all strains of HPV?

Did you know that if you have been sexually active, the vaccine is pretty much a moot point?

And since when, do we have not the right to choose whether or not to get that vaccine???

Also, there is almost no long term studies. Even CDC doesn't know how long this vaccine is efficient.

AOS Approved on 10-17-08 (details in profile)

Removal of Conditions on 07-19-10

In this tedious process, we tend to forget that this is all worth it.

I love my hubby beyond anything in this world.

Since you decided to immigrate to a foreign country.

There are far greater injustices in this immigration system than a vaccine. Seriously.

Unfortunately Carla, this is the only part of the Gardasil thing that I don't know....

I'm not sure if Lori will have to get all 3 shots before she even files for AOS or if just getting the first one is proof enough to them since it takes so long in between each shot.

I'm trying to investigate for Lori....I wonder if I could call someone...

I had to get my full medical exam in the US and Gardasil vaccine issue never came up.

I think we can presume that once in the US, it doesn't matter if you had or not the vaccine.

I know this thread is not meant to complain about something we can't change. I apologize for those trying to find information.

As you said the HPV only touches women; so why making it such a big deal?

I can understand that they make sure we are vaccinated against disease that can be transmitted. I cann understand that the US would not want to have to treat somone and pay for the medical bill of something that was caught before. But I can not understand the point of requiring that vaccine.

I am lucky enough that I came to the US before this came up. I just don't understand the point.

And yes it is discriminatory because as far as I know there is no vaccine or whatever required only for men.

I am not against that vaccine as it, it's great that it came up, it's great for those who are at possible risk and want to make sure they won't get it.

I would have done it if I had to. It won't stop me from thinking it's not their place to require it.

I found that on travelstate.org

Panel physicians who conduct medical examinations of immigrant visa applicants are now required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the new vaccination requirement, or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive one or more of the listed vaccinations:

-- Acellular pertussis

-- Hepatitis A

-- Hepatitis B

-- Human papillomavirus (HPV)

-- Influenza

-- Influenza type b (Hib)

-- Measles

-- Meningococcal

-- Mumps

-- Pneumococcal

-- Pertussis

-- Polio

-- Rotovirus

-- Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids

-- Varicella

-- Zoster

What I understand from it is that it's the physician who decides if you should have it or not.

I wanted to add: Something was bugging me about this all thing, and I finally put my finger on it.

It would make more sense to me that they test you for HPV than vaccine. Not everyone has it, and if both partners test negative I don't see it necessary. Like the HIV it's a sexually transmissible virus, so if you don't have it, why vaccine? I mean we are not teenagers who are about to have X partners.

We are people who come to be with their wife and husband and are expected to be faithful. That is why to me it makes no sense.

I am not a doctor so maybe my reasoning is not right, if so I'd love to be enlightened. But wouldn't it be less expensive and make more sense to be tested rather than vaccine?

Thanks Laura! I'm glad that you are my little investigator friend :D

I agree with everyone about this whole issue. I am going to the States to be with my fiance thus I plan to only be with him and no one else. I only got the first shot 2 weeks ago so even if I already had something, it would have been passed on to him a long time ago. It just doesn't make sense.

Like I said though, I'll take the 3 shots if I have to but if I only need the one to be able to move to the States and they don't require the other 2 for AOS, then I'd be a happy camper! It wouls save me a lotttt of money!

most women are infected with hpv but that doesnt mean that everyone will get cervical cancer form it! i think the shots are antibodies so even if you already have the virus it can still be destroyed through the shot and prevent getting cancer!

i also think that it is a little discriminating against women or better against their wallets!!

i didnt have to get it for my medical but i want to get it as soon as im insured here, still am through germany.

If you have it, then the vaccine will do nothing. I agree, most women are infected with it. A virgin however, would not be. My daughter, age 25, went to her Dr. in Canada to see about the vaccine. Because she was not a virgin, the doctor would not administer the vaccination unless it was clear she didn't have it. My daughter told me, she had to go for a blood test. She didn't have it, and has had her second of three shots now.

If you do have HPV, the vaccine will not destroy it at all.

I'm sure everyone's intentions are that they will never have another sexual partner other than their spouse, or soon to be spouse. I'm sure everyone wishes that will be the outcome. Statisics however, say different.

The only concern I have with this whole issue, is that not beneficiaries from every country is required to have this. All other vacinnations on the list, are vacinnations that a US citizen probably has already, so anyone coming to this country should be up to the same standards as it's citizens, however it is not a requirement of a US citizen to have this vacinnation.
