The requirements are pretty clear. You must meet be able to support you, your fiancée, and if there is anyone else living with you that you support OR if she is bringing a child. If you cannot meet or haven't met that by the time the interview is scheduled, you would need a co-sponsor who can meet the requirements of their household plus your fiancée.

If your tax information for this year (I assume you are waiting until you file your 2008 taxes?) shows that you meet the required income, then you should be fine. As for things to do in Peru, gather evidence of your meeting. Keep plane ticket stubs, copy pages of your passport that coincide with your trip (where it was stamped), pictures (although pictures are secondary evidence), travel plans, any receipts that you have while you're there...for things you buy. You should have a good read of the K1 Guide here on this website. It has a wealth of information for you and your fiancée. It has a whole list of things you can send as evidence of having met within the last two years.

Best of luck Justin. VJ is here to help once you've read through the Guides. Have a great trip! :)

Hi Justin,

you will need a co sponsor if you do not make the required amount of money, keep your hope alive and look for one. Also like you have been told gater evidence of you having met and read this site, you will get a wealth of information that will be very helpful. Best of luck and travel well.

You may wish to print off the necessary biographical forms and take them with you. When you are there you can get them filled out properly and get her original signature on them. It is a good idea to print out all of the forms and instructions for the I-129 petition and take them with you. Then the two of you can discuss the requirements of the petitions. If you need copies of any of her documents you can get them while you are there, and the two of you will also have an idea of what else she will need to do after the petition is approved, and she receives the K-1 application and information from the Consulate. The more reading and planning you can do now, the easier it will be on you both in the long run. Have a good trip, and good luck.

You will need a passport size picture of her (and yours also) for filing the petition - so you can take her to a local photography store and do that while you are there. For the G325a - get her to sign all four pages - you will need to send all 4 originals with your petition (you will also need to do a set for yourself). Get some pictures of you two together and with her family and friends if possible. Don't worry about too much proof at this point. Many of us didn't send much and still got approved. Most of all - have a good time - the K1 process can take 4 to 6 months (or longer) so have fun. Good Luck

im a citizen i was born here, and i will make $17.500 this year, but my main concern is that if i can start the whole process, and get almost eveything done, and the last part will be the interview, that i can schedule after the new year, so i can use my 2008 taxes, and that that if they need any other typeof financial info about me like with some of the other sponsorships like, my bank account info over the past year, and my job history, and is ther a minimum balance i needed to maintain or have in the bank, and can we do everything else, but just push the interview back, and how long does it take to get an interview, than how long after the interview do we have to wait for her to come here?

Timing the interview so as to use your 2008 tax returns would depend a lot on when you file. You might want to peruse the Regional Forum for your fiancé's area to get an idea of a timeline. This won't give you an absolute timeframe, but still a timeframe nonetheless.

They will want bank information...I had my bank type up a letter stating that I have an account, what my yearly balance and my monthly balances were for the period starting from when I filed to when I sent the information with the I-134. Keep in mind that if you have savings or other income, that can be used as well.

Job history...I had my employer write a letter stating my position and status, my monthly income and how it translates out over the year. Everyone else stated the other things you would need...passport pics and biographical data. Make sure if you have passport pics made in Peru that they are to US measurement standards.

As always...this is what we experienced on our journey and not to be construed as how it will be for everyone.

As for when she can come here to the US after the interview....as soon as she has that visa in her hand and a plane ticket. :)

i just wanted to let you know i am also 20 years old with a less salary than you have, but really there is nothing to worry about. i started the process almost 10 months ago and still waiting, but thats a different story. what i suggest for you to do is put your money into a bank account or invest in a cd which is a better way to go. i have been saving for 8 years and it really adds up. just because you are 20 does not mean you have to worry, but during your process if u have any questions feel free to ask me :)

Your situation doesn't apply to everyone. Mine doesn't apply to everyone. If this gentleman cannot meet the income requirements, he will need a cosponsor so he does need to think of that and to be honest, not everyone can find a cosponsor...we've seen that on here many times so that would be something to worry about.

It's very good that you've been saving for so long...that will help you in many ways. Not everyone thinks ahead as you have done. Best wishes on your journey.
