James Shortcuts: im sure the answers obvious but my brains combobulated!!!

Ok simple question, Im sure the answer is obvious but ill go ahead and ask. With regards to James shortcuts, im assuming a person needs to recieve the aprroval (NOA2) before they proceed with being able to make use of the shortcuts? Would I be correct in assuming that once you recieve word that your case is approved, that its then you can proceed with "step 0" of calling the automated system and having a case number assigned. The slight confusion I have on this step is where the shortcut instructions say...."You do not have to wait on the USCIS to tell you your case has been sent to the NVC." That sentence makes me believe that it could be done after recieveng NOA1. I appreciate any answers from those that have availed themselves of the shortcuts that would clear that up for me.

I believe you have to at least have the NOA2..... If you call the NVC message it would say you are not in the system or something to that effect

yes you do have to wait for your case to be complete with uscis before it goes to nvc. then you can start calling nvc to get case number takes about 2 week to receive your case. once they receive your case and assign a number. then you have to wait for it to tell you things have been generated then james shortcuts take affect and you can send forms in. have you spouse fill out all papers and send to you ahead of time so your ready good luck

I wrote those words :)

Sorry if they are unclear.

http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Jame%27s_Shortcut

"You don't have to wait on USCIS to tell you your case is sent to NVC. Call the automated phone system[2], enter your USCIS case number ... "

What I meant was you don't have to wait until your NOA2 arrives in the mail. Once you know USCIS has forwarded your case to NVC, then you can use the automated phone system to find out your NVC case number. I will try to re-write them clearer.

You do NOT have to wait to do what I listed in "step 0".

What is listed there is preparation work for documents that will be needed when you get to NVC.

Obviously, you can not send anything to NVC until you are asked for it, but preparation makes the NVC timeline much shorter.

Thanks Credzba for putting up James's Shortcuts on VJ Wilki for the benefit of the whole community.

Now, a question for Merk. In your timeline, I saw that you email in your DS-3032 choice of agent on 02/21 and got it accepted even before DS-3032 being generated on 03/08. My question is: After waiting 1 week after the case has been assigned at NVC, would emailing DS-3032 choice of agent work regardless of whether DS-3032 actually has generated or not?

Due to my job away from home a lot, I can only take advantage of the emailing step in James's shortcut. So, I want to make sure I can get the most out of it.

I am not sure about that. We emailed early because we are/were using a lawyer. And we have lost faith in her. so we just took a chance to see if it worked. They accepted the change and using the shortcuts I sent out the AOS bill on the 5th. So I am waiting to see if the NVC message changes and if it worked or not. So I have my fingers crossed

if you want to get faster response from USCIS register in their website and ask for email when your case is touch, when it complete u know case will forward to NVC without waiting for NO2 in the mail. you can use your USCIS Case # from NO1 once u get an approval in email.

Alright I am going to tell you what I did up to the point where I am at NVC right now. As soon as i found out that my case was approved and sent to NVC, it took two weeks for them to assign me a case number, by then i downloaded the DS-3032 choice of agent form from james shortcuts, replaced the barcode and sent it to my wife, had her sign it w/out dating it and mailed it back to me, so that why by the time that the form is actually generated in the system, you will have it on hand ready to submit. You can go the other way that the people are doing it, is actually emailing NVC a letter from your spouse explaining to them that you havent recieved your form and would like them just to enter your spouses info about who is to be the agent that will recieve all of the forms from NVC. I didnt want to do it that way, because if you look emailing can take up to 10 days or more just to get an answer that they recieved your email. It is up to you which way you wanted to go. I want my wife to get here as quickly as possible so i dont want to lose any time, i dated the form like 2 days before it was generated and sent it in. 2 days later it was entered in the system. Now the other form that you need your spouses signature on is DS-230 Immigrant Visa Application. As soon as i sent in the Choice of agent form, i had my wife start collecting all of the documents that were required for her ds-230 and i had her download and fill out the 2nd page of the application so that way she could sign it and return it back to me with all of the other documents. Now hopefully this helped a little bit, keep reading this forum..it will teach you a lot. I am very thankful for all of the people's help, and maybe i helped a little. Take Care.
