I just couldn't care less. So what? The United States is bigger than its anthem and its flag. It really shouldn't matter, in the same way that it doesn't matter that a whole bunch of those American Flags that people like to hang outside their houses and plaster on their cars are made in....China!!

If a country is that insecure that an anthem sung in another language upsets it well, it's got bigger problems that the language of that anthem.

We have bigger and more important problems in this country to deal with than someones choice to sing the star spangled banner in spanish. It's just a convenient and utterly ridiculous subject upon which people can vent their insecurities.

i'm sure you'd feel the same way if the british national anthem was in spanish. or even worse...french!

I think it sucks big time. These illegals protest waving the Mexican flag and now prevert our anthem. It is really pissing me off. This is America! Not Mexico.

I agree

Well DAYUM!!!! I agree with a lot of what you said, and my thing is, whether we admit it or not, English is not the official language of the US. We don't have one. So I don't see why it's not acceptable to translate it to whatever language one chooses, if it makes it meaningful to a group of people who have never understood the words.

Very true. We do have far bigger problems. Which is why I said earlier:

If someone came up with a translation of a national anthem just for the freaken heck of it, I couldn't care less. Yet, when that is done while mostly Spanish speaking illegals try to portray themselves as victims (which they are not), immigrants (which they are not), parts of the society (which they are not) and as innocents (which they are also not) while demanding not only that our laws be changed to let them do whatever the heck they please but also that any and all services, government and otherwise, in this country of ours be offered in Spanish and while flying Mexican flags over our schools, then I do care. Coming up with a Spanish version of the Star Spangled Banner in this context is quite disturbing as the underlying message is anything but a desire and willingness to integrate.

It is in the very context of the recent illegal entry/presence/employment debate, the insolence of this lot of law breaking aliens and the looming amnesty that the weasels in DC are going to hand them as a nice reward for pissing on our laws (all of this predominantly and coincidentally concerns Spanish speaking folk) that I have a problem with this gig. Otherwise, I wouldn't give a first hoot. Have them sing it in Afrikaans, Russian or Hindu and see what I care. ;)

...my thing is, whether we admit it or not, English is not the official language of the US.

...my things is that this is as lame an argument as they come. Tell me: What language are our laws written in?* What language does the Congress debate in? What is the primary language in public education? Look where you want, but English is it. There may not be an official declaration of what the official language is but I think that history established English as the language we communicate in here in the USA.

* Now, maybe if we had written immigration and employment laws in Spanish as well, we wouldn't have them illegals here. Maybe they're just here 'cause they simply don't understand that our laws don't allow sneaking across the border and using fake ID to take up employment. Poor souls. My bad. Something tells me, though, that they'd be here even if the laws were written in Spanish...

oh let's see. 200+ years of our government being conducted in english. the document setting up the goverment being in english. the fact that a vast majority of those within the usa speak english daily. has it sunk in yet? someone get me a bigger hammer......

What does the official language or lack thereof have to do with it? You brought that up, not me.
Have them sing it in Afrikaans, Russian or Hindu and see what I care. ;)
Minor correction... the language is called Hindi. Most people who speak it are Hindu but many are Muslim and even Christian.

My bad. Should have remembered that. Afrikaans, Russian or Hindi, then.

I still wouldn't care.
