I wish American companies such as banks, check cashing companies, grocery stores etc. would retaliate by picking one day to not speak Spanish or make any effort to communicate in a language other than English.

A couple of years ago I finally got fed up with a local Burger King. It never failed every time I went I had practically draw pictures of what I wanted to order because the employees there barely understood or could speak english. I only continued to go back ocassionally because my daughter likes Burger King food. Well finally one night after repeating my order countless times at the drive through speaker, driving up to the window to try to make them understand it face to face and still having my order messed up I called them and spoke to the manager. I was PISSED and YELLING, I said this is the US and we are in a predominantly English speaking area the very least you could do is make sure the person in drive through understood English!

Sadly his response was, "I would if I could believe me, but they don't apply for jobs here...I don't have a choice"

I have similar experiences with a neighborhood sub shop. It's owned by an Indian guy I am friends with but he's never there. The people who run it are all family members, many of them B2 overstays. The only person there who speaks decent English is the owners wife.. everyone else can only understand what I say as long as they can relate it directly to a line item on the menu.
