Stupid question about total Income?

I know this sounds stupid but whats the right income to put in the Affidavit of support the total in come (in line 22 of 1040) or the Adjusted gross income??? Pls. help ahuhuhuh.

I would use my gross income, because once you are married your deductions will change. Give them what they ask for and surrender nothing more until they ask for it....Be honest but be smart also!

Hello, just the same question worries me and my fiancee. What ammount should we put into i 134 - total income or adjusted gross income? You said to give them what they ask for - but what income do they ask for? i haven't found it anywhere - not in the instructions not on the ambassy website. The thing is total income is much more than nessasary, but with adjusted gross we would need a co-sponsor. PLEASE us understand.

Use line 7 or 22, whichever is higher. If all income is from employment, line 7 will be higher.

So we need to use total income, right? My fiance is self-employed farmer. To be truthful i don't understand what "adjusted gross income" means. He told me it is the money he needs to pay taxes on, not the money he actually made. Did i understand him right? What GROSS means? Sorry for a really stupid question Thank you so much for the reply!

A farmer is usually like a self employed person or merchant. In those cases, adjusted gross income is probably most appropriate.

An employee's income is their salary, or all the money they receive. If you own a store, your income isn't your gross sales. It's your gross sales minus the cost of goods sold, labor costs and overhead. A farmer is much the same as a merchant. He may sell a million dollars worth of wheat to make anywhere from zero gross profit to $100,000 or more.

line 22 is the number you need on a 1040 . The trouble people get in while self employed is the fact they try to have as many deductions as possible. They would rather have a new truck or in this case tractor than pay it to the government. This is good from a business practice . This is not good from meeting the income level for a 134. I understand wheat may hit $18/bu If he has 10,000 bu he should be in fine shape

But he has good money on his bank account ( around twice as more than 125% level PG).Do we defenately need co-sponsor anyways?

Based on only $10,000 in income and two time the income requirement in the bank you would qualify, barely but I would get an additional sponsor anyway.

Roughly $35000 in liquid assets can substitute for 1/3 that or $11,666 in income shortfall. That would bring the income to over $21,000.
