Thank you all for the responses. I guess I assumed hiring someone else to put everything together for me would save me time but didn't consider the fact that I would be providing everything to them which is going to take time from me, it just makes sense to do it myself.

Its just the thought of gathering all the information and paperwork ..

I guess its because I have to deal with forms and tons of paperwork for my clients and then having to go home and then having to go home and doing it for myself was getting to me and then being pregnant, I'm tired all the time! all I want to do is sleep when I get home but I will pull myself together and do this for my SO and my baby on the way. I probably will be on here al ot asking for :help:

I didn't even know about VJ until after I already had approval of the K-1 petition. I didn't have the time to research and look at guides and instructions before filing. I hired an attorney to so that I didn't have to. The one I used did have me fill out forms, but they provided the forms I would need and I didn't have to go look for what they were. I didn't spend any time assembling a "package" or cover letter or time reviewing what I had done. I let them do that. A couple of times they suggested I correct an item or change some wording. The arrangement I had was a flat fee for all inquiries and submissions from the initial 129f through the adjustment of status. It was $2500 and I would do it again.

There really isn't a lot of time involved. You do need to stay organized. And...do you have a picture of the two of you together at a recognizeable location? That is a biggie at this stage.

Try it yourself first.

Michelle,

Go over to the Carribbean forum and post there. We're a lot of fun and full of information. I know what you mean about dealing with all the paperwork from your clients and the tireness from the pregnancy. Now you're on the other end of it. Everything will workout for the best. Try not to stress over this...the baby won't like it. Just think about the two wonderful things you get to look forward to in 6 months or so.

I think the biggest time savings was not having to learn what to do first--for some people even a few hours is time that could be better spent. I have seen many posts here on VJ where someone finds themselves in a very bad position because of some mistake they made. Many jump in quickly to suggest not getting a lawyer up front. Some of those same people are just as quick to recommend a lawyer at the back end when everything has already been screwed up.

I would recommend doing it yourself. I bet if you spent one hour each day on it you could get it done in no time. Just takes a little planning and you can save yourself a lot of money.

I agree! I also feel that learning the visa process and submitting the forms yourself can give you a least a tiny bit of control over it all. It may seem as though it would be comforting to think "the lawyer is handling it all", but in truth, it can cause even more stress. Doing it yourself you KNOW what you did, when you did it.

Now take that money you would have given to a lawyer and spend or invest it for the baby!! :)

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum. I just have a few questions.

1) I know timelines are not always predictable but can anyone give me an estimate: I'm pregnant and would like to apply for my fiancee so that he may be here when I give birth, due date is in October. What are the chances he'll be here by then or soon after if I file ASAP? PS: He is in Jamaica and I am in NY.

2) I am an attorney and I'm capable of filling out the forms myself but simply do not have the time right now.. I'm swamped but I know the forms need to go out soon. How reliable are some of these sites that offer services to take care of the process, especifically I was considering http://www.fianceevisas.net/

anybody use them?

Thanks in advance!

Michelle

Michelle,

Welcome to VJ!

To get your fiance` here, you must file ASAP!

You might want to get your congress ppl involve, due to your pregancy,

they may be able to push for a faster interview date for your man.

But of course the necessary paperwork must be filed by you!

Good luck & congratulations,

Maleena

congress ppl are not going to help due to pregnancy, being pregnant is not reason for a faster or expidited petition. Many of us on VJ went thru our pregnancies and gave birth without our SO by our sides bc of the time it takes to do this process, and when things look like they are moving fast, something can slow it down.

Michelle,

I'm not sure if you have already filed. Make VJ your best friend. I have seen K-1's processed in as little as 4 months, and as long as months. Since your baby is due in October, you may want to file as soon as possible.

Good luck!
