I was just wondering how we can effect this kind of change in another country without going in and doing it ourselves. We had Saddam under UN sanctions for 10 years and he was still oppressing and killing his own people until the day we went in. In reality there is nothing we can do, short of changing governments, to stop this kind of behavior. We either have to live with it or do something about it. There really isn't anything else we can do.

That's a bit disingenuous Gary. It's not like that was the policy that precipitated agression, nor indeed is it the reason why the fight goes on. The real reasons are much more murky and self interested. Essentially, instead of working within the confines of the UN, the US decided to do a gung ho strategy that has in fact had disasterous consequences for the region because no one thought ahead to decide how to deal with the inevitable power vacume that was created. If the US would back a global organization with a bit more enthusiasm it might be possible to make more inroads into human rights issues.

Well, then... you must be a fan of Bush's "you're either with us or you're against us" speech, right? After all, you can't get a whole lot more "absolute" in defining "acceptable behavior" than that.

Absolutely wrong. The absolutes are not be determined by individuals or individual countries. The US should have continued the UN route. Tough? Yes. Unwieldy? Maybe but it's the only way forward really.

come on - you KNOW you'd pay 50 dollars a pop to watch the saudi witch conducting her supernatural acts. maybe even a show-down by freak boy david blaine and the saudi witch. he is jewish (his mother was of russian jewish origin), and she's a wahabbi saudi. they can battle out their differences in a wizard like 12th century dungeons and dragons style production. it will make lord of the rings look retarded. does it get any better than that? witchcraft, wizards, floating freaks, and a saudi witch battling it out to settle the middle-east jewish-arab dispute once and for all.
