Isn't most water from the sewers treated and then put back through the taps?

It usually goes into the rivers or ocean and mother nature does the clean up. To my understanding this is the first time they will pipe it directly from the sewer to the tap.

Yes. This is just the first water treatment plant in OC. All this time, we've enjoyed water from natural sources, but even that is no guarantee that the water has never been desecrated by man or animal. As with all mountain spring water, there's no telling what the bears are doing upstream. :P

The water that leaves a treatment plant has to meet CWA standards. Many are now meeting SDWA standards.
