 ah Mox, you make me laugh.

Debz, I'm so happy for your new job! It sounds so interesting and challenging and rewarding.

Sara, I'm glad you got the medical done and out of the way. I know the whole situation is frustrating but soon you two will have the green card and you can forget about all this stuff for awhile. Oh, and you should LOVE Whistler! I actually haven't been myself yet, but Scott is a big skier and he says it's just absolutely amazing out there. You will have a fabulous time!

On the homefront here: my mother-in-law is driving me absolutely crazy, and she doesn't even live near us, she's in Canada! She's trying to change some of my wedding plans and she has an opinion about EVERYTHING, even little stuff. She wanted to change my freaking signature drink. Um, who's wedding is this? That's right, mine.

That's so weird. I would never expect that kind of behavior from a mother-in-law!

Okay, good point. But you know, people's crazy mothers-in-law (or is it mother-in-laws?) that you read about... well that's just the thing, I thought it was something you just read about, not a situation I thought I would find myself in! Isn't it usually the guy who has issues with the female's mom? Not the other way around? :( Why me?

Sadly, I know plenty of women who have the same problem as you have with their mothers-in-law. It can get ugly. I don't envy you at all!

personally, I'd listen to her suggestions and just do as you had planned, with a "thanks for the idea, but Scott and I already decided to do...." then let it go.

Good luck!

I always thought it was the MIL and wife(-to-be) that clashed the hardest. It's the whole "she's not good enough for my baby" syndrome. My mom, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. During my "starter marriage," my wife was the daughter she never had. I just knew that if it ever came down to her choosing between me and the wife, I'd be on the losing end of it. Fortunately I turned out to be wrong. :D

I would listed to Julez. But also learn to pick your battles. Let her win the ones that don't matter so much to you, and most importantly make it seem as if you don't know what you'd have done if she hadn't been there to make that all-important decision about going with either the chartreuse or canary napkins. :D Save the stands for the big decisions, or if it gets really bad then implicate the hubby-to-be. :D

By the way, Rae, what is your signature drink? And how do you get one? :P

Ah yeah, I meant to ask that too!

By the way, my signature drink of late has been a White Russian made with orange-flavored Gray Goose vodka. It tastes like an orange creamsicle! I can really only drink one of them though, the orange gets to be too much after that. Then I just go with the straight up Caucasians.

I will try to do as both of you suggest. It's hard; I guess I feel like if I give up on something little, she's take over! Or if I let her know I appreciate a little help, she'll come with more and more, and what I really want is for her to be way less involved. But I think you're both right and I am going to try to work things this way.

My mom said it's too bad for her (my MIL); she probably views this as losing her son, whereas my mom said she views our marriage as her gaining a son. At least they get along!

My signature drink is a white chocolate martini. :) I thought a white drink would work well with our winter wedding. You can get one if you swing by the old port on February 21st. ;)

The creamsicle Russian sounds pretty good though! mmmm

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

:P :P :P

she has met me MANY MANY TIMES and part of the reason she likes me is because I keep reminding Dave to invite them for dinner, then I make them things they like :P

which included, last week, minestrone with my own HOME MADE bread rolls; she couldn't get over them

plus, she thinks I'm INSANE because I don't follow recipes; just get the general idea and than add things of my own, or make stuff up

but she liked the rolls for all that ;)
