Hi,

First of all, I am new to this board - hello!!

I will be filing a I-130 next month, to petition for my mother to come over to live (from the UK).

Is it worth filing the affadavit of support along with the I-130 app. or will they request it once it gets into the system?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Tracey

hi Tracey! Congats on your upcoming natz :)

To start the process for your mum, you file the I-130 with its requirements. The I-864 will be requested at the NVC stage.

"munchkins" is a UKC mom who was petitioned by her daughter; I'm sure her posts will be helpful to you!

You don't need to send I-864 with I-130. NVC will ask for I-864 later in the process after your petition will be approved and forwarded to NVC from USCIS.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Hi Tracey,

I am new to this site too! I also wish to bring my Mum out from the UK in the next year or so. We have an appointment for our fingerprints later this month, and then I suppose we wait for Citizenship interviews. It is all very exciting.

My only issue is Medical Insurance for my Mum as she will be 70 this year. She doesn't have any other family living close to her and we just can't leave her there on her own.

I will be watching your progress through the system very carefully.

Good luck

Mine is 78. Came to the conclusion that it was impossible for this very reason. Actually wondering if I can survive here to anything like that age.

Just wondering what your solution is?

Hi 'Boiler' & 'lmegac', My sit is similar. My mum is 66, but no family close, I have a brother in the UK (far though) and one in Asia. So far, the plan is to pay for insurance either through an ex-pat group or one here and then when she is eligible to apply for citz. it should be easier for her...... at least I hope so!

Well you are likely to have nearly 7 years of medical costs before Citizenship, and of course once you become a USC the benfits are limited.

But then probably not worth going into too much detail about the current position, who knows what it will be in 7 years.
