The main things I've noticed that went up in price lately are eggs & cheese. Eggs are sooooooooo expensive now. I'm getting my own chickens!

milk at our local convenience store used to be comparable to if not a little cheaper then the grocery store but now the price has gone up......it was around 3 bucks but now it is 4 bucks

Hmm...I wonder if this sort of situation might contribute to bringing back a Victory Garden type of era. Or maybe just get more people growing things with fewer expensive chemicals. I'd like that.

Then again, I've encountered at least one person who was suspicious of my home-grown vegetables and wouldn't eat them, and one person who actually gaped at me for plucking and putting fresh basil on my spaghetti, apparently appalled that I was "eating leaves." 'It's basil.' "It's leaves." 'Basil!' "Leaves!"

Of course, for the west, this is a humorous topic, but for those in countries where the cost of food takes up over 2/3rd of the wages currently, I guess it might not be so funny...and I don't think too many of them are obese.

If globally more people went vegetarian at least a few days per week (and didn't drive), then we wouldn't have these problems. Read Diet for a Small Planet - written over 30 years ago but even more pertinent today.

I wonder if the rise in food prices will counter the obesity-inducing effects of an increasingly car-bound, carnivorous lifestyle??? No more Big Gulps and supersize specials???
