There is plenty of room for the emergence of a third party, probably mostly taken from the carcasses of our two rotting mainstream parties.

Sure. But there aren't many who bother. Voter apathy is rampant, like #6 said.

And don't think that the jackass and fat asses aren't driving that apathy. As long as people are convinced that they only have two choices, they are stuck with those two. Some people just refused to vote for Retard Bush OR Retard Kerry. If your only other option is Nader, I can see a person not voting. I think the primary system is hugely flawed and only helps to cement the left and right hand around our necks.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

In a modest town where honest people dwell

The answer is to get involved in the party that is the closest to your core beliefs and principles and work to change them to what you believe from the inside.

That presumes that the existing two parties will always be the existing two parties. A viable third party, can, in fact, "become" one of the two mainstream parties. It's happened before.

Our two major parties today are, as you know, coalitions... of sometimes very disparate interests. What commonality does big business, small government and low tax conservatives have with bible thumpers who seek to use the White House to establish a theocracy in America? None, yet they are all parts of the modern GOP, which accounts for a lot of the cognitive dissonance from within the party. There are similar disparate interests in the Democratic party as well, some of which are more easily aligned with components of what is today the GOP.

There is plenty of room for the emergence of a third party, probably mostly taken from the carcasses of our two rotting mainstream parties.

Yes you are correct with your statements. For most of the early part of the 20th century the GOP was the progressive party with the Dem's being the conservatives. As well as during the civil war the Republican party was created out of the Whig party. Which had a protectionism platform. But when the anti-slavery elements of the Whigs joined with the anti-slavery elements of Democrats who at the time were staunch defenders of slavery and slave holders, the Republican party was born. Contrast that with today where the Dem's consider themselves as the self-appointed voice of Blacks and minorities and are now the party of protectionism. And conversely the Republicans are the conservative party and the party of free trade. You can see how the parties evolve over time. But since that time the pendulum has swung so far left that even JFK would be considered a conservative today.

I think you are getting it wrong with the theocracy statement though. For the last 20 to 30 years the Christians have been disparaged in the media. They do not seek to create a theocracy, they are tired of the constant trampling of their beliefs and values. This idea that the Federal government is secular and atheistic, is absolutely not true. This country is founded on the freedom of religion, not the freedom from religion. The Constitution does not even have the phrase "separation of church and state" it was taken from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson. A private correspondence. The constitution says no state church not that God is to be stricken from every official document and building. This is tyranny run amok. The Christians were quiet for so long until it became unbearable to them. If you quit mocking them and discounting their beliefs in every way imaginable, they will go back to doing the charity work and beneficial things they really would rather be doing. Things that they can do a much better job at then another government program. But remember that Christians can be Capitalists too!

LOL, I didn't actually read all that, but it reminds me of when you go to rural places and listen to conservative talk radio... I swear I've heard that before... did you know the most persecuted people in the US are Christians?

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Its hard not to mock people who insist on the validity of Creationist theory (most specifically that it should somehow be 'introduced' in the general curriculum for High School science classes) to the point that millions of dollars are spent on Alternative Natural History "Museums" that show Adam and Eve being chased out of the Eden by T-Rex et al, and also those folks who insist that signage at the Grand Canyon view remove all mention of its geological age.

At the end of the day its as ridiculous as the numbnuttedness that goes on over what to call "The Holidays", but it does show how reactionary people are willing to be about stupid, trivial issues; while everything else goes to pot.

Talk Radio always makes me laugh as its really anything but - really just soundbite finger-wagging and meaningless one-sided rants. Outside of NPR there's not really any actual, substantive discussion on the corporate networks. And yes, I know that NPR has its bias too (before anyone decides to trot out that $0.02 wonder - and you know someone will...) but the programming content has rather more integrity and substance than a glorified town crier like Rush Limbaugh.

And that is how you end up living in a country with the standard of living of Kazakhstan! Plus a president for life to boot! Democracy still has a long way to there. Why bring the commies here?

Commies only chase power! In spite of the damage their system of government inflicts on the poor.

Wow that sounds pretty reactionary. I don't tell you to be a Christian. Just don't push that enviro-religion ####### on me. Worshiping at the alter of eco- socialism with the sacraments of Global warming and environmentalism.

T-Rex was long since dead before man evolved.

Remember I really only push my core principles:

1. Low Taxes(to keep a strong and vibrant economy, with out economic freedom there will be no other freedoms)

2. Small Limited Government (so tyranny of the most historical sort is kept off the backs of the citizens and in accordance with the constitution)

3. Strong National Defense ( without defense there will not be a country to live freely in)

As long as you don't mess with these things I don't give a ####### what you do!

Eco-socialism is a new one on me... Still its interesting that you somehow automatically assume from the above that I must not be a Christian. There are plenty of denominations that don't subscribe to the rubbish spouted out by fundamentalist sects (sects which seem to be peculiar to certain parts of this country).

Still don't take my word for it - there are creationist museums

Anyone that disparages the Christian religion so vehemently, as you did here today. Could not believe that Jesus is his lord and savior. That's how.

I don't doubt that creationist museums exist. Did I ever doubt that?

You have never heard the term "eco-socialism"? It is the promotion of socialism through radical environmentalism. Constant scare tactics and doom and gloom ism. "Chicken little syndrome" if you will. "If you don't adopt these extreme radical socialist programs and environmentalism that ruin and devastate of the economies of western civilization. Then the ice caps will melt and drown us all." Kind of fire and brimstone sermon if you ask me.

I think it is the same tactic the religion has used for for thousands of years. hence the terms eco-socialism and enviro-religion.

Yes, this is disparaging to Christian. From belittling their beliefs to telling them that they are numb nuts. Absolutely. Every religion has such beliefs I don't hear any other religions being "mocked" here.

There are other religions that believe in creationism. Also, not every Christian believes in creationism. All I see is criticism of creationism, not Christianity.
