Tiger escapes at San Francisco Zoo, killing and wounding visitors

What is a shame is that the zoo obviously still doesn't have proper training for a tiger (or other such creature) escape. If they had of done she would only have been tranquilised by trained zoo keepers rather than being killed by cops. She was just doing what tigers do...looking for food or attacking when scared or feeling threatened.

Poor tiger.

Poor tiger.

Indeed. Its not like the Tiger was acting outside of its basic nature.

Any remorse for the man from either of you? How sad.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I'm addressing the zoo's incompetence for it is they that should be held accountable, not the tiger. Had they trained themselves properly then that man wouldn't have lost his life and the other two victims wouldn't be injured.

I didn't mention the man losing his life because it wasn't part of my point.

That's sad.... poor tiger :(

poor human

I agree with both statements.

Indeed.

On the previous point - I'm wondering why its even necessary to annunciate it, it should be taken as read IMO.

agreed. and i agree with mags. i don't see why they should have killed the tiger! how about a tranquilizer?!

From the article I can see why they shot it - it sounds like it was trying to eat one of the people it attacked. Its a fair guess that the cops couldn't get near it to check if the person was still alive (and it says the Tiger threatened them), so they probably didn't have much choice in the matter. The darts take a while to take effect anyway - tiger could do a lot of damage in that time.

What I don't get is why the article makes a big deal about the previous attack on the zookeeper (they usually do that with stories about family dogs turning bad) ... as though the Tiger is some sort of rabid cujo. I mean... its a tiger, its not supposed to be tame... nor is it unpredictable that if the thing got loose it would be rather dangerous.

 I knew when I read the story that they would kill the tiger. :( AFAIK, the tiger was just being a tiger.

New reports say that one of the victims was taunting the tiger. The person apparently jumped a fence and was dangling his leg over the tiger's enclosure.

I'm sorry, but if you taunt a tiger, you probably deserve to die. Seriously, there is no cure for stupidity.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
