I was in China with my fiancee for her interview, I was not able to attend the interview with her, but was able to show to I was in China by her having my passport when she interviewed.

Being with fiancee goes to show a bona fide relationship.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

It depends on the embassy or consulate. Some will allow you to attend the interview, while others will have you wait outside.

Contact the embassy and ask them. In my case, they informed me that I WOULD be allowed to attend, and that it WOULD be beneficial.

Also, I posted a very similar question not long ago in the embassy forum. Some good input:

In my opinion, it shows support and is one more piece of evidence that the relationship is genuine, and you are available in case there are any questions or problems.

I had planned to be in Kathmandu for my (then) fiance's interview, but the Consulate surprised us by giving him an interview date the day after he turned in Packet 3! (see our Consular review) It looks like others who have interviewed in Kathmandu have also been given fast interview dates.

I just wanted to mention that because I bet your petition package is already in Kathmandu by now, and if your fiancee turns Packet 3 in quickly, she may even have her interview before you get there!

Best wishes for a smooth interview and safe journeys...

Maya

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!

Attendace of the US citizen at the interview is "recommended but not required".

I believe it would be a very good thing to go with her if possible. I went with my fiance for his interview (in Ankara, Turkey) and the interviewer asked me many questions as well as him. Going together is probably the best way to prove you have a bona fide relationship. For example, we brought pictures, emails, chat logs, etc., but we were not even asked to show them. I believe this was because we were together and our feelings for each other were obvious.

Also, at his interview, I saw and overheard other people's interviews (the interview was conducted in a large room, similar to a bank lobby and you could hear everything being said). I watched several people who were there alone get turned down for lack of evidence of a bona fide relationship, even after their interview appeared to go well otherwise. I watched other couples who were there together (some of whose interviews appeared to go rather badly) get approved in the end, I believe because the US citizen was there saying, "I love this person and I want them to be with me."

Good Luck,

Tanya

Good luck daai, hope it all goes well. I hope to be with my husband for his interview in KTM as well if everything goes smoothly and the interview takes place in the summer when I can take time off - will probably send in our application on Monday if hubby's forms are on my desk on Thursday (sent by Express Mail) like he says they will be. Please let me know if you are allowed to actually be together with your fiancee at the interview or if you have to wait outside. I don't think any of the other Nepal VJers were able to be in KTM at the time of their SO's interview so I'm very curious.

Once again good luck - praying to Ganesh and Maa Tara for you guys!!!
