Ummm, Brits speak terrible "english," as well. Let us remember that the english language is not a static language.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

no one has a clue what my husband is saying and just stares at me or laughs. I read this in the UK forum...as I said there my favorite memory of someone having no clue what Neil said was when he told my mom he thought he'd have a lie in (sleep in). She had no clue what he was talking about.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

Carol hates watching stand-up comedians on television cuz the slang is so frustrating for her. Im sittin their crackin up and she just looks at me shakin her head.

While I agree with this, I am very against allowing modern "English" to take away or destroy classic phrases. Case in point: "Ho, ho, ho!" Our shopping mall Santa can't say it now why? Ghetto slang has the right to terminate a centuries old quaint yuletide expression? Bah humbug!

Let us remember that the english language is not a static language.

that's not 'modern english destroying classic phrases', it's an overly litigious, overly PC dare-anyone-take-offense-because-they-have-no-common-sense that does that ;)

I have some in laws who are curious about differences between UK and USA language...and to explain some things i have had to think hard before responding to make sure i am not confusing them further!

Even using correct english i find myself having to repeat myself....my best example would be going into Walgreens and saying to the sales lady " I would like passport photos please" ....she gave me a puzzled look and asked me to repeat myself....which astounded me because with people i do not know i am deliberate with my english language ( i will adopt for want of a better word "non accented english")

I was once told - "we speak the same language but we dont!".....and sometimes that is very evident.

There is no real mccoy. It has all been reformatted over centuries. I can't say much, I come from a state with its own unique language.
