What are the chances to get thru to talk to a live person there and hear something informative?

You can try calling, but chances are they won't know any more about your case than you do. The local office is the sticking point here. There have been several members here who were denied due to not showing up at an interview (despite receiving notice that they were cancelled).

Go to the appointment anyway!! If itis far enough in advance see if you can schedule an infopass appt in the interim. Perhaps it is something as simple as MSC/NBC has not yet forwarded your file to the local office (as happened in my case).

I have heard about other's interviews getting canceled, then weeks later they get another interview date in the mail. But a few people went to the scheduled interview (the canceled one) and they actually got interviewed anyway! Yes call USCIS and if you can't get any good info, you might want to try just going to the canceled interview.

Did you get another date because of the infopass? What did they tell you at the infopass appointment if I can ask? Another thing is that I was going to see my family since they approved my AP. Now I don't know wht to do. But I doubd they would reschedule it earlier than the first one...

I see. I tried to go thru USCIS website procedure to make the appointment last night but none of the 4 appointment options (reasons) offered seemed to fit my situation. Could you tell me which one you used?

GO ANYWAY (like LaL says)! Best that can happen is they interview you then. Worst that can happen is they turn you away and you miss a day of work.

Even worse would be the scenario that has happened to several VJ-ers: they recieve a notice cancelling the interview, then are denied the visa for not showing up! Don't take the chance.
