Marilyn--I don't think that there is really quick way to get your breasts to stop producing milk. I think that many recommend that you just pump enough to be comfortable and let the milk production fall off on its own. I also have heard that if you put cabbage leaves inside your bra it helps to lessen your milk production for some reason. You use a fresh cabbage leave and then get a new one once it becomes limp or wilted. You could try going to la leche league's website or kellymom's website to find out more info.

The only other way I have heard that you can stop producing milk is via injection of some medicine. I know that my mom was injected after she had me because she didn't plan to breastfeed. But if you haven't heard of that yet, there may be a reason that it is not popular anymore (side effects, etc.)

Lyuba--You never know when you might have that baby. You could progress quickly, or not. I was 3 cm dilated from week 34 until week 38 with my twins and got a big lecture from a doctor in the practice about how I should stop work immediately or risk having my twins prematurely. I had so much guilt, but felt I had to work until week 36 (for financial reasons and because I'm a teacher and they didn't have a sub for me yet). Well, I didn't have my baby until 38 weeks 1 day, and even then I had to be induced. Craziness! I was *extremely* uncomfortable for weeks. Probably because I was having non productive contractions for weeks that were waking me up every hour on the hour at night. But it was all worth it when I have birth to over 14 pounds of babies.

Marilyn that poem made me a little weepy. thanks for sharing and I know I am not the only one around here to be truly touched and so amazed by your courage and openness in sharing all of these trials of life with us. Hang in there. I cant begin to imagine your pain but please remember you are not alone.

Lizzy your baby is beautiful. Congratulations!

To stop milk production you need to wrap/bind your breast. Kind of like tkaing an ace bandage or scarf and wrapping them tightly around your breast to supress the milk glands.

I heard that they don't encourage this anymore...

This may actually increase the pain, while providing no real benefits to depleting your supply.

Do not bind your breasts to help your milk "dry up." This is an outdated practice that can cause plugged ducts, breast infection, or breast abscess.

Marylin,

You are such a brave lady. I admire you.

Thank you to everybody for your words of encouragement. I know I still have time so I am not upset or worried. But the doctor seems to be in a hurry, he wants me to be at least a little bit dilated.

He won't induce prior to 41 weeks so that's good. I prefer not to be induced at all and just wait but he told me that after 41 weeks there is an increased chance of stillborns. Has anybody heard about that before?

Anna and Lizzy, congratulations...enjoy your pregnancy and your baby. time flies by.

I'm doing pretty good. I still have some morning sickness but ginger pills keep me in line. I'm not showing yet (I guess Im somewhere at around 7/8 weeks) and I have a doctors appointment on Monday. My biggest problem seems to be to find a doctor who will support me with a VBAC. Noone here does it, not even midwifes. I hope the one on Monday will be a little more open minded towart my plans.

We'll be going to Germany on Thursday, I haven't seen my parents in one and a half years and they haven't met Adam either. After Germany, I hope we can move into our house and get internet set up so I can get online more often.

All the best.

I think my husband is jumping the gun a lot. He went out yesterday and purchased about 3 shopping bags of baby clothes and two huge toys for our little girl. He brought them home after work. I told him that I did not want to start buying things until early April.

What do you guys think-too early?

He bought:

mittens, hats, bibs, sleepers, summer outfits, shoes, socks, receiving blankets, and whatever else the salesperson thought would be a good idea.

I don't think its too early. We had a ton of stuff when I found out we were having a girl. I was able to get organized (by size) earlier, which was good since I wound up on bedrest.

I don't really think it's too early...when I found out I was pregnant my family went out and bought tons of baby stuff just for fun, gender neutral things until we found out it was a boy. Then they went out again and bought tons more stuff. LOL It's the first grandchild for my parents. But it shows your husbands excitement, right? :)
