We expect to have our case reviewed by April 24th, as long as no RFEs are issued. The US embassy in Tokyo, unlike most embassies around the world, is still doing immigration interviews, and we hope to get ours scheduled in mid-May. Flights between Tokyo and the US (i.e., LAX) are still running, though we don't know for how much longer. If we get a visa issued then, but flights from Japan to the US are then canceled, we would only have until mid-November for my wife to get to the US before her visa expires. After that, it's unclear what will happen with her visa status. I've seen embassy notifications from other countries explain that a new process will begin, with new fees and new waiting times. In June we requested an expedited visa with NVC for a medical reason. The request was granted, and two days after receiving the request the US embassy in Tokyo scheduled an interview for my wife. She hadn't time to get her medical check completed prior to her interview, but the embassy told her to come in for the interview first and she could submit the medical check results afterward. 2021-07-20
