    They just need to update their system when they have an oath ceremony date or when they put you in line for oath ceremony. My sister did not get one update during the entire process of her green card application until after the interview. All of a sudden she got so many updates an document uploads that were not done prior to the interview. I’ve heard of an individual who was called with his interview information and no document was posted of the letter. It was close to the actual date and after calling them to find out what was happening that info was uploaded and letter sent.

    You maybe in for a rude awakening if your interview is scheduled outside your expected timeline. It’s not written in stone as to when you will get an interview date and while you’re enjoying your vacation outside the country, it would be such a bomber to realize that you missed an interview appointment. My sons had their interview within 6 weeks, my sister got hers in 4 weeks after applying!! Things change for different reasons. If your vacation is not going to be a long one, go ASAP rather than later. If you can’t, then hang on. The opportunity cost may not be worth it. Timelines change.

    Best to wait. They don’t recommend travels during this time but if you must then the delay will be on you. I knew someone who got her letter the day after the oath ceremony. Oh yes. And it took a year before they rescheduled her. Yup! In things like these I don’t advice anyone to make preparations for travel. If they do, they should tell the officer at the interview with dates of travel and have the ceremony scheduled after they return.

    It will not affect your citizenship. You have already passed 5 years and you have passed your interview. You will be fine. Your wife is not the main factor anymore as you qualify for citizenship on your own and have already passed. There’s just a delay in your oath ceremony date.

    Sorry for late response. I have been going through after effects of chemo and have not been on the forum. Congrats as you are now a citizen and my response will no longer be necessary.

    My son’s case was being actively reviewed from September to February then he got an update for interview being scheduled. That was 5 months later. This was NY. My older son applied in Florida on the day my younger son was scheduled and within 6 weeks he had his interview and same day oath. Both became citizens in April but it depends on the state. There are others waiting over a year for some states so it’s just a waiting game.

    Tracker apps give push notifications for other information as well such as visa processing times, news, visa bulletin and other updates from USCIS that may not be specific to your case.

    I hope we get an update. My sons and I each filed 5 years rule. We were never asked for tax documents. Both sons became citizens last month; I was in 2014.

    Don’t spend money on a lawyer. You had a legitimate reason for being late and all they ask is that you explain the reason. Your response send should be enough and they should reschedule the appointment. They stated you did not show up-which is incorrect- and you did. Getting a lawyer is a lot of money to pay for fear. You have a valid reason. All the best.

    My son got just one email notification throughout the process. You don’t have to log in daily. There are case tracker apps. The one I used is called case tracker for USCIS and it has the flag with the USCIS logo with the eagle. Once your info is in you just need to check without having to be logging in. All the best for you.
