Hello All,

I am filing for my adjustment and status along with my application for travel document Form I-131.

I would like to visit my family in the next six months. On special instructions, it says I can only leave the country for emergency reasons.

"

PART 7

a. If you are in the United States and seek an Advance Parole Document, you may apply if:

(1) You have a pending application to adjust status, Form I-485, and you seek to travel abroad temporarily

for “urgent humanitarian reasons” or in furtherance of a “significant public benefit,” which may include a

personal or family emergency or bona fide business reasons.

Has anyone here been able to leisurely visit family using this document?

Jane

You'll be fine to travel after you receive the card. If you do a search on here, you'll find many stories of people who have done so. The only thing is that you (and your spouse, if he/she is with you) will get sent to secondary inspection for a little bit just to verify your documents. Also, hello fellow Canadian! Hope the AoS process goes smoothly for you.

Like above, when you apply for AP witht he I-485 you don't even have to have a reason or date/time frame for travel. Just apply for it and they almost always give it to you. We left all information about travel dates and such blank, no issues.

One more question, Do I need two passport photos for every application if I'm sending it in as one?

I think it's up to the individual, technically. I treated each form as a separate "application". I figured if I sent only one copy for the entire packet, they might lose that and then request me to re-send it. So I sent copies with each form. That way, if they DO lose something, they have multiple copies to copy from. Hope that made sense.
