Congressman assistance time frame

Hi guys,

I was wondering is anyone that has had assistance from a Congressman for an expedite request, could give me an idea on how long they waited to hear back from them after all the evidence had been sent to them please?

We contacted my USC husbands local senator who forwarded us onto the Congressman, as she felt they would be able to provide more beneficial assistance to us. The Congressman’s assistant contacted us the same day and sent us through the waiver we needed to sign and include our immigration information and asked for any evidence we could provide to support our expedite request. We sent it all back to her with our evidence, as quickly as possible and then she told us they’d send the request to USCIS for consideration and be in touch once they hear back. It’s been almost 2 weeks since and I wanted to see if that was a pretty average time frame to hear back from them.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can give me!

My question to you is why are you contacting a Congressman to do a expedite, and is this a military related expedite? You would need to contact the NVC in order to do a expedite.

Congressmen, politicians, lawyers, or anyone else can not request expedites for you. It would completely undermine the integrity of having an unbiased system. Think about it, if they were allowed to do so then it would open up all kinds of bribery in exchange for getting cases done faster.

Expedites are approved for specified reasons to prevent frivolous requests. If you have a valid reason for expedite and it meets the expedite criteria then you would simply request the expedite yourself along with your evidence.

I should have added more history to this post, my apologies.

Here is a previous thread in which I got advice from other VJers and went from there.

The congressman submitted the expedite request on our behalf for humanitarian reasons, we talked with her and told her our situation, my husband is a vet who needs to get back to the USA for treatment at the VA, I’m his caregiver and traveling without me is going to be incredibly difficult/almost impossible. She said we apply under that reasoning and to apply for an expedite. I understand that people on this website will probably completely disagree with this.

Our petition is still at USCIS which is why she requested the expedite through them

We previously requested an expedite ourselves through the military helpline and were denied due to insufficient evidence, not surprised because they didn’t give us the opportunity to send any in.
