Visa in hand - new Loomis process?

My visa was shipped from Montreal after 7 PM EST last night and arrived in Winnipeg at 0641 AM Central Time this morning. I went to Loomis this afternoon and the man at the counter was really nice, but he said they changed their process. He took my driver's license, and then he opened my package. He told me that they are required to take a photocopy of the visa in the passport and of the photo ID presented at the time of pickup. Then I had to sign it (of course!). I don't know what was done in the past, but I was surprised when he just opened up the package in front of me. I am assuming with Loomis taking over DHL, they just wanted enough checks and balances in place to make sure no mistakes are made.

Anyhoo...I sure didn't mind what was going on, I was just happy to have that package finally in my hot (well, not really) little hands! :dance:

The page in my passport is valid from 17 Feb 2015 until 03 Aug 2015, and the paper they sent with the envelope states that you MUST pay the visa fee BEFORE you leave to enter the US. I don't know if this is new or what, but we will pay it next week. Now to start the countdown until I can leave at the beginning of April!

Congrats on getting the Visa. Looks like you were "lucky" and it only took 10 days and not like a month as some people.

If I were you I don't know if I could wait till April! I mean I am sure you have reasons and I am sure I will too when I finally get my Visa to wait (packing, getting things in order, etc)

But I would be like "WHERE IS THE BORDER!!". Especially after all that waiting.

the new loomis process and the new site probably caused delays in issuing and sending out visas. Glad you got yours!

January 8th 2014 - NOA1

July 10th 2014 - NOA2

July 17th 2014 - Case shipped to NVC

July 30th 2014 - Case received by NVC

August 13th 2014 - Case number and IIN received by email

August 13th 2014 - DS-261 Form Completed

August 14th 2014 - AOS Fees Invoiced and Paid

September 17th 2014 - IV Fees Invoiced and Paid

September 19th 2014 - DS260 Completed

October 6th 2014 - AOS and IV Packages Received

November 28th 2014 - AOS and IV Checklist (4 items in total. 3 for documents they lost. Called on December 9 and a rep said no checklist for IV....go figure)

December 8th 2014 - Checklist scan date.

December 30th 2014 - Case Compl........NOT. So after not having an interview date yet, I called again on Jan 30th and apparently its in final review with a supervisor.

February 6th 2015 - Case Complete: Supervisor called from NVC to confirm everything has been completed now.

March 27 2015 - Interview Date

March 27 2015 - Approved!

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks Brent! I totally get you, especially when he only lives 4 hours away! Unfortunately I have employment obligations and financial loose ends that need to be tied up. Also packing up my whole life to move it south is more daunting a task than I anticipated. It's okay though, as my husband is on the road anyway. By the time April rolls around things for him will have slowed down some so he can come and get me.

If I remember correctly they also did this when mine were picked up. My dad picked up on my behalf and I was so adamant that he not open the packages he was worried when the DHL guy pulled our passports out for verification.

Ah..so it's not a new thing. I was sort of taken aback when he ripped the package open, but he seemed to be very familiar with the process. He was telling me horror stories of opening the packets and finding the actual visa "Do Not Open" packet open. He has had women in tears at his desk. He said that all he did when this happened was to write a letter for the person to give to the CBP officer at POE explaining who he is, what happened, and his contact information in case CBP wants to contact him. He has never received a call from them, but has received calls from a couple of people this has happened to, saying that the officers at POE accepted the letters and allowed processing to proceed.

Nice to know that there are nice guys like that at Loomis that will do that in order to prevent a lengthy hold up at the tail end of a grueling process such as this. It's also nice to know that there are CBP officers out there who are willing to be flexible. :)
