RFE for Birth Certificate

We just got an RFE on a K1 AOS because we didn't submit a birth certificate. I thought that since we already established identity for the K1 visa, the passport and visa copies would be sufficient. I guess not...

Did we get screwed? Not that it matters, just kind of annoying.

Anyway, now we need to get the German birth certificate translated into English. I think it is in Germany right now, and as I understand it, it's kind of like a book. Are there official translators that do this? How can I find one? How much money is it? Does it need to be notarized or anything like that?

Thanks for the help!

You might want to check this to be sure you didn't miss anything else...

If your fiance can translate the document accurately, it can be done with him providing a 'certification' statement and having it notarized.

There have been many posts on this subject. Use the search feature and check out the responses.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

About translating documents you can have a friend or your fiance do it they just have to sign the translation at the bottom with a statement like:

I certify that I am competent to translate from [Language] to English and that the above [identify the document and to whom it pertains] is a correct and true translation to the best of my knowledge and belief.

Signed:_______________

Yes the certificate needs to be translate you can do it as other VJs member said, works fine. Don't worry we have the same problem than you, we forgot to include the birth certificate and received a referral two months ago, sent the paper quickly and our process continues without problems.

Good luck

Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Certification by Translator

I ___typed name____, certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and____________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled____________.

Signature

Date Typed Name

Address

It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

If the original is still in Germany, you don't even need it to respond to the RFE. A scanned copy or even a clear fax copy will do to submit to USCIS (with translation of course). And then get the original in time for the interview.

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail
