Bringing father of permanent resident

My husband came here from Brazil in 2014 on a K1 Visa. He has his Green Card. His mom passed away about a year after he arrived and now his dad is alone in Rio. He wants to bring him here. He worries about him being alone. The question is how hard would that be? I am finding info about bringing siblings, children, but nothing on parents. Any advice on how we would go about it? Once father in law sells his home and retires, he would have enough money to survive  extremely comfortably for the rest of his life so money would never be an issue and he would not ever be a burden on the system.

Ok so he has to wait three years after he got his initial Green Card to apply for citizenship, correct? It will be three years in April so I guess we have to do that ASAP. That kinda stinks because we really would like to bring my father in law to the USA so he is not alone there. My husband really worries about him since his mom unexpectedly passed away.

You can apply before but say he gets his Citizenship mid end of 2018, takes about a year so would be looking to get here sometime in late 2019.

Ok so we will start working on that so that he can bring his dad here. He figures he will live here with us once we bring him here. I guess that gives him time to work on selling his home in Rio.

The usually biggie is Health Insurance, he has plenty of time to sort both out.

$91,250. per year average cost per year for a nursing home in Michigan. That's prices now. And don't forget health insurance.

Is he a millionaire? If he is, maybe he could do an investment visa for $500K.

And most other countries have NO provision for bringing parents from foreign countries. Count your blessings your husband has this ability even if it's a few years away.

Yes, we definitely need to make sure that he can get that. I was able to insure my husband when he arrived through my employer but that is definitely not an option here.

The chances of him ending up in a nursing home are slim. We both work from home so if he ever needed care we would be here for that.

Ok well we don't intend to put him in a nursing home. He is pretty healthy and active at the moment so it isn't something we forsee. Our intention is also not tp stay in Michigan either. My husband and I plan to move to Tennessee in the next year. I am from here and I am a bigger wimp about the cold than he is and he came from Rio where it is always summer-like! 🤣
