Question regarding the consulate interview

I have my interview coming up in a few days. I'm wondering if its a good idea to bring along my flight information along with proof of sufficient funds? I'm applying for a J1 4 month summer work travel visa. I booked my flights ahead of time (yes I know its not optimal in some people's opinion. I fully accepted the risk when I booked them and believe it is worth it given my financial situation; if I am denied a visa then I'll be able to save the money back as I have a steady job, but flights are getting more and more expensive).

Would showing them flight information make me look presumptive? Or would it have the opposite effect; showing that I have already sorted my flights out and therefore whatever money I have will stretch further.

Did you also book the return flight? That would probably be viewed positively, if so. But, hard to tell. Definitely bring proof of sufficient funds to support your stay.

While I can't say how the officer would view it, having bought the tickets already can backfire. Kinda like going on a job interview and asking the interviewer for the dimensions of the office because you already bought new furniture for the room for a job you don't yet have.

So I honestly don't know about your Embassy, but it's possible they won't even ask about whether or not you've bought tickets. If they don't bring it up during the interview, the general rule is you shouldn't bring it up either. So, you can bring along whatever you'd like as additional proof, but if they don't ask/aren't interested it, then clearly the tickets won't have any affect on their decision.

Got it. Thanks for the input everybody, this has been really helpful. I have an additional question if anyone has advice. Regarding the proof that I intend to return home, I feel that I'm in a bit of a hard spot. I don't have full time employment and so I can't get a letter showing that I intend to return to it (I do have part time work though). I also have no financial investments to point to and no sick parents.

Is the fact that I'm a student enrolled at my home university enough to prove my intent to return? I have to bring a student status letter that shows I'm enrolled but this is a requirement anyway, it wouldn't be an additional bit of documentation. Is the fact that I'm a student in the middle of a degree enough for this?
