Right, I think I need to prepare an unemployment survival kit!

I've been on two months long service leave just hanging out at my fiancees house, I guess it'll be the same just without expendable income.

Thanks for the help.

You can also read on the area you will be moving to and see if there's any volunteer communities nearby. I was able to volunteer for a community garden/park near my place. Good place to start getting comfortable with talking [American] English the whole day  and it was a nice start for networking / making new friends too.

Also if you're into online courses, check out coursera. You can start brushing up your resume and look for jobs as well and go to interviews. But you have to wait for the actual EAD card to arrive before you can formally start working.

Might as well look into the AOS process when you get the chance.

Edit: I checked your timeline and realized you guys just filed for I-129f. Still a long road ahead. Better read on your embassy-phase matters first. :)

OP you have another 5 - 6 months until your NOA2, then the NVC and Sydney consulate phase is another 2 months on top of that, so no need to worry about your EAD now!

Good idea on the volunteering! I will seek this out in a few weeks!

Oh...I clearly had an unrealistic time frame in mind. My fiancee thought I would be back in the states by November (4 months).

I've been researching this for months and still am as clueless as when I started!

People seem to have some really differing timelines, some are short and some take years.

Your petition has gone to TSC (Texas service center) because your Fiance lives in Maine (Maine applicants go to TSC) and the wait time for TSC is currently at 6-7 months for NOA2. There are Aussies who applied in early January who are still waiting for their NOA2 :(

Unfortunately in order to get your case to NVC then an interview at Sydney consulate in October, you'd have to have your NOA2 Next month which is VERY unlikely.

To be fair, I would expect a December/January approval for NOA2 then an interview for March/April.

Wow, really. Thank you for the reality check.

And the interview is only done in Sydney right? so I'll need to book a trip for that when the time comes (it's not done in Melbourne embassy)?

Sorry this has gone a bit off topic.

Hi,

Just to add a question to this thread, how long do normally biometrics appointment letter being sent? I've submitted my application last June 20, 2014, I received the acceptance letter a week after but haven't got the letter of appointment yet.

Thanks, xx

Mine was about 5 weeks after NOA1 date. You ought to have started another thread as this is not related to OP original post. Plus there is tons of stuff on here about how long stuff takes.

From what I noticed in the timelines, most folks receive the biometric appointment notice about 1-2 weeks from the AOS NOA. What does your uscis.gov case update say?

By the way, it will be better if you to start a new topic next time for your specific concern, so you'll get more response.

I applied for my EAD on 05/12/2014

received notice it had been approved on 07/25/2014

Now I must wait to receive the card in the mail

So generally about 90 days / 3 months
