My husband got his citizenship and naturalization certificate last month. What is the procedure after obtaining the naturalization certificate? My husband has an Indian passport.

2013-06-28: I-130 Approved

2013-10-16: DS-260 Submitted Online

After my husband got his citizenship, he applied for his US passport (he is from Australia, and he can have dual citizenship). After getting his passport, he went to the Social Security offices and changed his status on their records. He also registered to vote right after the oath ceremony. There were booths and representatives at his oath ceremony who had all the brochures, applications and information in regards to "what to do after the ceremony".

I think that India doesn't allow dual citizenship, You might want to check that with the Indian embassy. But you can go to the social security and update your status. After that you can apply for the passport. I assume your husband did register to vote the day he became s US citizen if not he can call tge DMV or BMV whichever it's called in your state and ask how can you register. That's all. No. But your husband lost his Indian citizenship at the moment he gave the oath of allegiance. Try to google PIO vs OCI he needs to apply for one of these if he wants to visit India

day 43-- 05/23/2012-- Notice for an interview is received for 06/26 @ 2pm

day 63-- 06/12/2012-- Received a Text & email for an update- Card production EAD/AP

day 77-- 06/26/2012-- interview / approved on the spot.

day 86-- 07/05/2012-- Received my GC in the mail.

ROC

day 1 -- 04/07/2014 -- ROC Package delivered to VSC

day 16 -- 04/23/2014 -- Walk-in Bio.

day 197 -- 10/20/2014-- Approval Letter received dated 10/16/2014

day 202 -- 10/25/2014-- GC received

I would treat these as 2 separate issues. He needs to obtain his US passport so he has proof of US Citizenship in case he wishes to travel.

How he relinquishes his Indian citzienship is not related to obtaining his US passport. Hopefully other folks have tips on that procedure.

from my experience, i applied for new USA passport . but when i tried to apply India tourist visa on USA passport, Indian embassy asked for my India passport and stamped all over saying expired

u would be be able to keep both passport but its illegal, but sooner or later when u apply for tourist visa from Indian embassy they will verify to check if the old passport has been cancelled yet or not.
