US Consulate does not process K visas

Hi guys,

So far this platform has been a great source of information and support. Been browsing a lot in the last couple of days as we will be filing our I129f soon.

Now I do have a couple of questions that were triggered by Question 36a on I129f form.

Question 36a......."Your fiance will apply for a visa abroad at the American embassy or consulate at:"

We contacted US Consulate in Curacao (current city of Fiance) via email and they informed us that the consulate does not process K visas on the island. Therefore travel to another location will be necessary (US Embassy in Barbados, DR, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Jamaica, Suriname, T&T were mentioned as options. They US Consulate advised us to select the most convenient location.

1)Do we still write "Curacao/Willemstad" in the answer box of Q36.a. or do we fill in at this point the country of the US Embassy of our choice (where fiance ultimately will be traveling to for the interview)?

2)Also, as my fiance will have to apply for the visa at a US embassy out of his own location and thus somewhere else in the region, how will this affect the rest of the process?

2a- do we need to notify the embassy that will receive, process our case of anything in particular?

2b-anybody who's had a same kind of situation and had to choose a US embassy located abroad to apply for the visa; what were the criteria that influenced your selection?

2c- will the US Consulate in Curacao play any role at all during our process?

In the past, residents of Curacao needed to go to Caracus for imigrant visa services...but they announced a chnage just this month, I believe. You should list the Embassy/Consulate where you want to process the visa (although I would certainly pick one of the ones they listed). You don't need to communicate with that Embassy in advance. Curacao will have nothing to do with your application.

There is a press release on the Consulate's Home Page (http://curacao.usconsulate.gov/index.html) announcing an expansion of visa services that says applicants are no longer required to go to Caracas. Doesn't specify it applies to K1, but given what the OP said about what they were told, it seems it might.

(They haven't updated the Consulate's visa website pages yet, so it's hard to tell.)

That press release says they expanded non-immigrant visa processing and are allowing more people to apply than could before. A K-1 is processed by the immigrant visa section of the consulate, which is why the K-1 is not listed on the NIV section of the Curacao website. This would not be applicable to a K-1. Curacao has no IV unit.

The info the OP was given was correct in that Venezuela was mentioned and Caracas is where the Curacao website states those living in Curacao need to go to apply.

Fiance lives in Curacao. US Consulate in Curacao does not process K-visas.

In the past residents had to fly to Caracas; however nowadays Curacao residents can also choose to apply for their us visa at another nearby convenient location.

We plan to apply for the K visa at the Colombian US Embassy. (reviews about safety in Caracas are frightening).

Will his case be accepted at the US Embassy in Colombia, without any problems? Do we need to contact the embassy ourselves in advance?

Need your thoughts on this for peace of mind.

List Bogota on your petition, Caracas can be muy peligroso (very dangerous) town.

@Pitaya: Indeed, that is part of my concern as well. Now just hoping that us filing at the US Embassy in Colombia won't deliver any surprises or extra hurdles by not residing in Colombia.

Checked the CEAC website this morning. We have received our Immigrant Visa Case Number (BGTXXXX....) Case creation date: 04 August 2015

My fiance will be travelling from Curacao to Bogotá for the medical and the interview (US consulate Curacao does not process K visas).

Based on case creation: can we assume that BGT embassy has accepted our case?

As you can all imagine, our big question is: WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? [[[Have gone through info on Colombia Portal here on VJ, however portal clearly contains outdated info and therefore makes it confusing/ questionable]]]

1) Will the Embassy contact beneficiary? How will this happen?

2) Anybody that can shed some light on time estimates from this point?

3) Should we take initiative and contact BGT embassy?
