Sending PCC to NVC

Those of you who have sent in the IV package already to NVC, what are you doing regarding the PCC?

Are you sending the copy or the original? I am looking at instructions from the Mumbai Consulate that says a PCC is required to even enter the consulate. Wonder if they'll insist on an original in this case or would a copy be sufficient?

Step 1

Obtain your Police Clearance Certificate from the Regional Passport Office (The validity of the PCC is one year from the date of issue. Bring the new PCC if the one you have submitted has already expired.) Also note that if you have lived in any foreign country for more than a year after reaching the age of 16 years, you are also required to submit the PCC from that country.

Note: Without the Indian police clearance certificate, you will not be allowed entry into U.S. Embassy New Delhi or U.S. Consulate Mumbai on your interview date. If you do not have your police clearance certificate in time, you will need to reschedule your appointment for a later date.

If your consulate is Mumbai, NVC does not require to submit the PCC. You just take the original to the consulate.

As far as I know, you wont be able to get a PCC in mumbai consulate jurisdiction area without your interview letter. Thats why NVC dosent require a PCC when it comes to mumbai. They generate the interview letter so that you can use it to get a PCC. But if you are able to get a PCC, they give you two originals anyway or atleast you can request two originals. Hope this helps.

You need the PCC for NVC and also during the interview. Some people have got checklist from NVC for not submitting the PCC and some people haven't. Don't know the yardstick that NVC uses in this case.

I got a checklist for PCC after Case complete and heard different response from NVC even though i submitted the Original PCC obtained from the passport office. Anyway, you get two originals from the passport office and we sent one to NVC and took the other one to the consulate for interview.

Bottomline: Get a PCC from the passport office if you can (We got ours at Chennai since wife lives at chennai and had no issues. Infact nothing was asked) and submit one to NVC and bring the other original to the interview.

Thanks again.

Thanks!

Just looked at your timeline. Did they allow you in for the interview with your wife?

Nope. They did not let me in. Unless you are the applicant with an I/L you aren't let through.

I forgot to mention that i asked my wife to get PCC again closer to the interview date. So she had one original from Oct 2013 when we started the NVC process and one from Jan 2014 (Interview was on Feb 3rd, 2014) and Jan dated PCC was just a backup incase they wanted an updated copy during the interview.

Wife did not have any issues getting the Jan dated PCC from the passport office and this was at chennai.

So if possible get an updated copy closer to the interview date if you can just as a backup.

I got 2 originals of PCC from my regional passport office, Trichy. They said that they wont provide extra originals when the exixting ones are still valid. I am planning to send one to NVC and another to interview. I dont think i can get another copy for closer date of interview if my current copies are valid by then. Is there any option to get extra original copies from Trichy passport office if i need to get one for interview or POE?

I got only one original from the Mumbai passport office. I called their helpline, they said they won't issue another one until this one is valid although you can take an appointment and try. (validity is 6 months according to the passport office website). I feel its a waste of time. I submitted the original PCC at NVC and took a copy to the interview. They didn't ask for PCC at the interview, although I observed in the next counter the Indian officer was asking for the other PCC original..but I guess its just a formality and they return it back to you. You can say you have already submitted the original and the passport office didnt issue you another original. You can show them a copy of the original.

I got my original marriage certificate and PCC notorized incase NVC loses the original. But you should carry a copy of PCC and marriage certificate which is not notorized to the interview.

Thanks everyone for sharing.

Hubby is currently trying to get his PCC, the website allowed him to schedule an appt only for end of April!! We already submitted AOS and are waiting now for the IV fee and we can't send the IV packet without the PCC.

How long will the PCC take from the day he goes in?

Does he have to wait until his appointment or can he walk in and see if they will take him? (we have heard mixed stories, some say wait for appt others say you can walk in from 9-11am any day)

I am just worried that the PCC will now delay our NVC step and I want things to move ASAP!!!

Worst case, we do not have the PCC, can we send in the IV packet without the PCC and state on the cover letter we will bring it to the interview?

Hi There!

You get the PCC at the time of the interview, my wife walked out with it . She did have an interview for the PCC; i'm not sure if you can walk in or not w/o an appointment (Make sure you get two originals if you do).

Many have been able to get through NVC without a PCC for the Bombay consulate, stating that you'll carry it to the interview. I am not sure if this works 100% of the time and maybe others can comment. However, what I would recommend is in the worst case that you don't get a PCC until end of April don't delay sending your IV package because of it. If they do checklist you, state the above argument and you might just get through. In the other case you'll be waiting regardless and adding a unnecessary delay. You won't be worse off sending the PCC at checklist time vs waiting to send the entire package after you get the PCC.

Wish you the best!!

I can just walk in to the PSK for PCC. No need to fix appointment. But not sure if that works in all PSK offices. U can jus check with your regional passport office.
