My husband, the petitioner left some fields blank on his AOS like Social Security Number for me (because I, the applicant don't have any yet).. Will we get an RFE for leaving it blank? Thanks!

You might. Our 864 was returned because we didnt put NA in fields that were questionable but didnt apply. Depends on whether what else you left blank. SS# shouldnt stop it because thats kind of a given and most electronic forms wont let you put anything else in that field. What else did he leave blank?

Just so you know, there are YouTube videos out there that are instructional for completing each form. I watched them in entirety and filled out paper copies of all forms as my drafts before I submitted d the real documents. The best videos are done by immigration attys. You can also google search "instructions to fill out form ####".

He left the following blank:

1, Alien Registration Number (if any) - because I don't have any

2. Place of Residence (if different from mailing address) - because it's the same

3. Information on prepared, if prepared by a preparer - because he himself prepared it (nobody else)

I think it requires COMMON SENSE for them since these fields have the IF ANY phrase there..

Yes he will likely get a checklist (NVC does not issue RFEs) because others have gotten them especially for the address thing.

Its whacky. You would think common sense would supercede but the letter we got specifically said to put NA in all fields if applicable. Now I'm not sure there isnt some level of common sense somewhere and wonder myself if there isnt anything pertinent missing if they pay as much attention to the N/A's. Going forwarding however, leave nothing blank that can be filled in with an NA.

Thanks a lot. As I am about to mail the AOS package, I went back and put N/A in every box that does not apply for me. Trying to avoid checklists and consequent delays.

So did you all receive that checklist after all? I just mailed mine with the exact same blanks. I got a first checklist with another error that I corrected, but I didn't put any N/As as the checklist didn't state it. I was not aware of this discrepancy with leaving Blank spaces. I am wondering if since I just mailed it. If I should mail another one again with the N/A on. Please help!

Hello I was wondering if you got check list for this? Do we need to put in N/A in all the blank spaces?

Hi NLR do you advise that N/A is placed on every blank section? Can this be handwritten as typing N/A is some fields like the alien registration for applicant is not allowed. Would you advise to fill out everything, print the document then write 'N/A' in all the blank areas?

For the A# either leave it blank or put --- (dashes) through it. Many people have not had an issue leaving spots blank now. However if you use the I-864EZ (which I completely recommend if you qualify!!) then yes, put n/a or none for anything that is none or not applicable.

I am just going to reprint the Barcode and send it again even though I just mailed it last week. I did use the i864ez and left blanks. I don't want to wait another 60 days for them to tell me what I already know. Sadly I just realized this after I had mailed it.

Well I called the NVC and requested to speak to a supervisor but none were available. The operator gave me instructions to resend the form and just attach a letter explaining the issue.Since the time difference between the mailing dates of the two corrected AOS was very short, I wouldn't have any problems with the NVC. That it would be common sense for them to replace the old one in the system. Hopefully this happens! I overnighted the corrected AOS. I'm just trusting in God everything will turn out just fine. Thank you for your advice.

I thought I was being overly cautious when i handwrote N/A in those fields. now i'm glad I did, but i'm still worried about the rest of the form. We did the I864EZ. I hope it's all ok, inshaAllah.

Thank you so so so much for post about the YouTube videos. I didn't think to check there. I hope that helps out everyone else too that hasn't sent their AOS yet. BTW, the NVC Wiki here on VJ is priceless. It was so helpful to us when we did our AOS.
