DS-260 for K-1 Visa?

I'm a tad confused. I just checked out the London Embassy website and it happens to mention this: "From September 1, 2013 the DS-230I & II and DS-2001 is replaced by the form DS-260"

Does this even apply to the K-1 Visa? We're just about to send in the "DS" forms too! helpsmilie.gif

Yeah, they've managed to make it confusing. smile.png

There's some discussion on this in the UK section.

Check out the big K1s at London thread from here onwards: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/350185-london-2012-k1s-from-noa2-to-interview-thread/?p=6480149

No, it is not meant for non-immigrant visas, but since the K-1 is typically included in the immigrant visas at the consulates, I guess they figure the DS-260 works for the K-1 too. Juarez has used the DS-260 for K-1 visas for a couple years now.

That is good info to know Kay. So far London has not updated their instructions or provided a link to DS-260. And nobody has reported doing the form for London that supposedly went into effect nine days ago.

The DS260 replaces all DS230 as of 9/3/2013 and this includes all K1 unless you have completed DS230 before the cut off date. Most of the embassy's have not updated their site.

Thanks for the info wink.png! I'm not sure why something that should be so straight forward happens to get so complex headbonk.gif

Ok Greatly Blessed. Find the form and use it and tell us how it goes for London

London happens to have gotten complicated in the last few weeks.

1) They disabled the call center number and added an online message contact which they may or may not answer. And that may not happen for a week.

2) If you call various numbers, you may get a non-immigrant specialist who gives you wrong info for a K1, so it's next to impossible to talk to somebody about the K1.

3) They added a pay for your visa in advance website which may or may not actually work and give you a chance to pay or a receipt if you pay.

4) They took the schedule/pay for the DX courier out of the lobby and bundled it with the online visa pay. It may or may not work for you. Courier is supposed to be free if you pick up at a DX depot. Or you may pay £$?30 for it to be delivered to your home.

5) if you get approved at your interview, you will post "how do I know when the visa will get to the depot or my home?" Well DX calls some and says you have to pay because they have no record of your paying. Or the supposed free to the depot--well DX says it will be an £8.50 charge for that.

Add to that maybe a four week or more wait to even get that interview appointment after your forms and medical results are received by the embassy. And a few that are told approved then no word on the passport/visa/courier for weeks after. Think you can call and sort it? Go back to #1.

Confused yet??

I think this would be the appropriate time for my head to explode into bits crying.gifdead.gifblink.png

What we're going to do is just send in all traditional "DS" forms and then complete the online DS-260 just in case. That way we can avoid delays.

We can't do the ds260 because we aren't given an invoice number from NVC. Try it. I just sent all the old forms and am hoping for the best.

Oh really? Great, because having to do another form is just a drag. I had noticed that invoice number field but wasn't sure what it was. Does it not let you move forward if you don't have one?

If you don't already have a DS-230 in the system you should do the DS-260 if you are doing it now. Call the NVC AND ASK FOR YOUR INVOICE NUMBER. The fee will say exempt when you log in to fill out the form

You need to get the invoice number from the NVC. You can call and ask them for it when asking for your case#. They don't just tell you that info. You have to specifically ask for it.

I know this is for Juarez, but this is the FAQ about the DS-260. It may be of some help anyway > http://ciudadjuarez.usconsulate.gov/faqiv260.html

Also, there is no choice on the DS-260 for the petitioner to be the fiance(e). You must select spouse, at least that is how it has worked for going through Juarez..

), your invoice ID number will be the principal applicant’s date of birth (YYYYMMDD).”

I found this it might help?

Perhaps this is different from country to country, but our invoice ID number had no relationship to either of our birthdates in any order (there are two 3's in our number but neither of our birthdates have a 3 in them). It appears to be a random number.
