I was just wondering what our next steps are, We got a notice of "Approved Petition" do I now just wait to hear from the US Embassy Montreal, Canada before anything else needs to be done or is there something I should be doing?

and how long does it take before I will hear from them?

You will probably never hear from Montreal.

Call NVC and get your MTL case number.

Go on the MTL US embassy website and download your packet 3 papers.

Fill out your papers and get your stuff ready.

Call the DOS line and ask if your petition is at MTL and ask if they have logged it and sent you P3.

If they say yes then you send them your finished P3 package.

Call the DOS line and ask if P3 has been logged and if P4 has been sent.

If yes then you can now book your interview and medical.

I looked at the guide for the K-1 and it's kind of vague regarding what happens now, but the CR-1 says this:

A few weeks after you have received your last Notice of Action indicating the approval and forwarding of your I-130 application to the NVC, the NVC will send your relative a packet of forms that you and your relative must fill out before your relative can be given an interview date with a consulate abroad.

Congrats! Now you wait for the NVC to send the petition to Montreal. While you're waiting you should get all the documents you need for the interview so when the consulate gets your petition and sends Packet 3 you're ready and can respond right away. If you need a passport renewal, long form birth certificate, and/or police records still this is the time to get them. The beneficiary should also make sure they have all their medical/vaccination records and get required vaccinations that they are missing. The following links should help:

If you need a passport renewal explain that the passport is required for K1 visa processing so you can get married in the US to your fiance and that the I-129F petition for a fiance visa will expire and that you need the passport to send back the required documentation in order to schedule an interview and medical exam. Since there is processing time for the Packet 4 (the info needed to schedule an interview) to be sent and wait times for the medical exam and the interview if you don't get the passport soon you may not have it in time to finish the K1 visa processing before the fiance visa petition expires. Additionally explain that without the passport you're also unable to travel to the US to see your fiance, assist with wedding planning, etc. A copy of the approved I-129F is sufficient to qualify for expedited processing. While the consulate will extend the petition expiration date this will avoid delays which we all hate.

For proof of urgency print the NOA2 approval and the NVC notice that the petition is being forwarded to the consulate in Montreal to show visa processing should have begun (if you have that). Print the Packet 3 instructions (http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/packet3-k1-mtl.pdf) and bring those too in order to show that the birth certificate is required and that you can't schedule an interview etc until you have everything listed.

You can just get a CPIC record or if you think there's a reason that there'd be a hit on the beneficiary's name (such as a conviction, etc) then get the RCMP one instead. Someone with the same name as my fiance murdered someone so we're getting the RCMP one just in case to avoid potential delays later.

Make sure to get your finger prints taken at a place that can do electronic submission, processing time is 3 business days vs 4 weeks if not. Reason for request is to get a K1 visa issued from the US Consulate in Montreal (foreign travel). Bring the NOA2, NVC letter, etc as proof just in case. My fiance went in to one of the places that does the electronic fingerprinting and they had all the required forms, etc there.

Clearly inky was simply pointing out the next steps. There is no suggestion she has an interview yet. She is a K-1, so NVC does not set her interview, the Montreal consuate does. If her petition was approved over 2 weeks ago, there is a very good possibility she already has a case number. Her next steps are consulate specific, so perhaps lets let the people with experience working with the Montreal consulate direct her forward

Well had you read my post you would notice it is a list of steps.

Also you are talking to someone who is filing a K-1 not a spousal visa like you. That is a completely different process. K-1 petitions do not stay at NVC mostly they are there for a week at most and then sent to the embassy.

For example my K-1 petition was at the NVC for 2-3 days. Then it was at the US embassy in Montreal very quickly. It is very possible that her petition has already left the NVC in the 2 weeks + that have already passed since approval.

Nope please read again. K-1 book their own interview. read my post like I said! I made a LIST in ORDER of what the OP needs to do. Booking their interview is LAST on the list of things for them to do.
