I mailed off the application to renew my Cdn passport om March 30 and i received it today, so not too shabby! i was fortunate enough that I could take advantage of the new passport guidelines which was nice, and when i was In Saskatoon, i got my passport photos done. I had on a white shirt---as I needed two pics with a light colored shirt for my RN picture----the lady at the photo centre strongly suggests one not wear alight colored shirt, but it worked out. So a blazing 17 days to receive my passport, it arrived via DHL, and the dude stated he could not leave it at the door, luckily i was home!

ps, as others have confirmed, your passport # does change.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Flames9 I thought for sure I would have mine before you got yours! LOL! I guess not! I took my passport renewal to the counter on Tuesday April 7th and I have yet to receive it. They told me 2 weeks or less. My parents got their's in less than 1 week, but maybe because those were first time passports? Anyways good to hear that you got yours!

yep they are working blazingly fast at Passport Canada right now -- mine took 3 weeks, and that included a week on a side trip to be signed by my guarantor first. :)

Can you believe it cost me $30 to courier the dang renewal form today? sheesh! What a freakin rip off. $97 for renewal fee, $16 for photos, and $30 for courier to Gatineau :P

Quick question, did they send you back your old passport and original documents as well without any problem? I am sending mine next week by mail from the US. I am just not so cool about having to send the original of our marriage certificate, but for a name change Passport Canada requires the original document to be sent along with a letter explaining why I need a passport renewal before it expires.

I just really want my marriage certificate back :unsure:

You can request that they send your old passport back to you, tell them you need it for the copy of the visa in it, and they *should* also return originals of your ID as well.

Is it true that Canadian passports are good for 10 years now?

Someone told me that the other day, but I just didn't want to believe them....
